Pregnant after IF

Working out

Hi ladies!

I am 6w0d today after ivf. Bloat is going down and feeling much better after mild/medium ohss.

I've gained some weight during and before ivf. I have always been very active ~6 miles per week plus training.

I feel ready to workout. I just got in the mail 3 dvd sets with monthly pregnancy videos.

However, I'm a bit scared. I'm preg after first ivf attempt (Male infertility). I've never been pregnant. Id love to hear your thoughts on starting to workout next week after u/s #1.

Big hug, lots of luck to everyone. Wishing everyone a beautiful pregnancy :)

Re: Working out

  • I went to the gym 2-3 times a week until I was about 30-32 weeks with my DS (after a clomid/iui cycle). I'd say ask your RE and if they give you the okay, go for it.

  • If your ovaries are still swollen you will need to wait. They warned me your ovaries can turn or flip easily with lots of movement.
  • I wouldn't plan on working out until you're released by your RE/OB. Your ovaries may still be swollen from IVF, which can cause some major complications.

I feel your pain. I ran 10+ mi/wk before IVF and still haven't been able to get back into a good exercise routine. As soon as I was released, I got a SCH. As soon as the SCH resolved, I got sick. I can't wait to get back on my feet and work out again. :(

  • Hoping this little ache I have on my lower right side isn't my ovary. Praying doc releases me to exercise soon.

    Happy saturday everyone!
  • With DS, I was too scared to work out in the first tri. Honestly, I did not feel like it either. I never really got in the swing of things in the second tri and then I couldn't do to complications. This time I try to get in at least a light work out at least 3 to 4 times a week. I think it has helped with symptoms, mood, and weight gain. If you are nervous, start out slow or use a trainer experienced in working with pregnant women. I try to always keep my hr under 150 and I really try to keep the intensity and impact low to moderate. I quit doing some of my more intense boot camp classes because I felt like it was too much.

  • My RE did not want me running, but could do light bike, elliptical and swimming. Just usually too tired and sick to do it so my usual time is way down. I was released to run by my regular OB at 9 wks, but I go real easy. I wouldn't start anything aggressive or new, but they say you can stick with exercise you are already used to, just take it easy (don't overheat, dehydrate, or get too out of breath). Good luck!

  • At 8 weeks, my OB encouraged me to get as much light exercise as I can through the middle of the 2nd tri, because after that he'd have me slow down considerably (although I have twins).  I've been so sick, though, that about the only thing I could manage was to get on my recumbent stationary bike.  And not very much, if I'm being honest.  :)

@rcnavywife, WOW!!!  You did all that with TRIPLETS?!?  You're my hero.  Seriously.

  • My RE said my ovaries were the size of grapefruits!

Ihe said no running, no jumping no high impact. So, elliptical/walking, pilates and light weights for me until they go down. I think this is reasonable. I start tommorow.

On the other hand, I saw my baby's heartbeat today. Wooohooo. 1st time:)
