Baby Names

only (almost) 12 weeks but we are already thinking...

We've been tossing names around. We are pretty set on our boys name, James Robert after my dad and his father (who passed away when I was little.. they were very close so I'm happy we will be honoring him), but a girls name has been hard. Yesterday at our family Halloween party I mentioned that I liked older classic names and someone mentioned Lenore (I guess there was a Lenore in our family years ago...) and I loved it! DH is on the fence. We certainly don't have to make a decision now but just curious to get other opinions. :)

Sorry for any typos I'm on my phone :)

  • I love it!  I think it definitely sounds "vintage".  It reminds me of Leonie, which is one of my favorite names.  Do you have any middle name ideas?

No idea! Lenore Claire is what I was thinking. Claire is DHs grandmother's name... but I'm not sold on it.

  • My SIL's MIL is named Lenore. Well, actually she's Lenora, but she goes by Lenore.

I personally prefer Eleanor more, but I still like Lenora and Lenore.  I also like Lenore as a reference to Poe.

I am so glad you posted! I love lenora I didn't even think of that DH loves it :) I wanted Eleanor but DH has an aunt Eleanor and he said him and his brothers called her smelly ellie. Lol! So hour didn't want to do that name.....

I know this lady more as my SIL's MIL now, but it also knew her when I was kid too (small world situation). Anyway, I always thought she was so pretty and nice, and I automatically thought that Lenore/Lenora was a lovely name by association.

As someone else said, it does have a slight vintage feel. You don't hear it much anymore, but it's not so obscure that it's weird.

I think that's why I like it, I love vintage feeling names :) Thanks for the input!

  • I like Lenore. I think Lenore Clair is a very pretty name. I usually find Clair a little boring but I like it with Lenore and I like that it has meaning for you. I also like other posters suggestion of Eleanor and Lenora.
  • I love Lenore/Lenora.

  • I like Lenore, and like it with Claire. I think I prefer Lenore to Lenora, but Lenora is nice too. I like that it's an underused vintage name

  • Thank you everyone. We are really loving both names but we have 6 months to go so it will be interesting to see if I change my mind. :)
