Success after IF

It will get better. :)

All of the posts about weight gain and weight loss due to MS and the exhaustion posts and so on got me thinking back on to my first pregnancy. For me, I think this period (about 10-14 weeks) was the hardest period of my first pregnancy. (Being on bedrest and having pree was rough for me, but hopefully most of you will not have to go through that.)

I remember with my DS, I was still experiencing horrible, debilitating MS and it had been going on long enough that it was starting to feel like it would never, ever end. I actually started to grow scared that I would be sick the entire 9 months (as some people are) and that depressed the hell out of me.

Additionally, you feel awful, but yet no one cuts you any slack because you don't look pregnant or they figure you aren't far enough along to be having symptoms. I found that some morons seem to think you only have symptoms or feel bad when you are visibly pregnant. I actually had my boss tell me one time when I started dry heaving, "Isn't it a little early for that?"

You feel fat (and, if you were like me, have actually gained weight by now) and may even have a blump, but don't truly look pregnant or have a cute baby belly yet. On top of that, you may be in that awful "in between" stage with clothes where your regular clothes are getting tight but you aren't quite in maternity clothes yet...or, even worse, you can fit in maternity clothes but hate to go buy a bunch of clothes that fit the weather now when you know you will be needing warmer or cooler maternity clothes in another month.

Additionally, some of the newness and excitement has worn off, but all of the fun stuff (finding out the sex, the shower, the 3d ultrasound, decorating the nursery, etc.) still seems a long way away...

At any rate, my point to all of this is just to say to any of you in this spot right now-- It does get better! I remember being really sort of depressed at this point in my pregnancy last time. Then, seemingly overnight, I had more energy, the MS got better and my blump turned into a bump! And I remember actually enjoying most of the rest of my pregnancy...other than the pre-e part.

Just wanted to share this in case anyone out there was having the end-of-the-first-trimester blues. I was even feeling a little blah myself and then remembered that second tri was just around the corner...

PS - I realize MS does continue on for some, but my point was that for most of us, there is relief in sight. :)

Edit: darn it! I posted this in the wrong forum. Oh well. I guess yall get to read my musings about MS and the first tri.

  • Last night when we were out ToTing with the kids dh and I were talking about last year. I was in the first tri with K&A and so sick that I literally stopped to get sick in a bush along the way. I was absolutely miserable. This year we had our cuties with us. They were dressed as flowers and adorable. It definitely does get better. :)
