Help! Antibiotics???

So my pcp prescribed amoxicillin knowing I am pregnant. I called my OB this morning to confirm that's ok, but they aren't answering and haven't called back. (I've left 2 messages.) I was worried since it's Friday afternoon so I called my RE. First the nurse said "No! You can't take amoxicillin while pregnant!" Then she said "oh, wait, you aren't our patient anymore, I can't advise you. You should probably just do what the doctor said to do."

WTH! Has anyone taken amoxicillin while pregnant? Why do no doctors answer the phone on Friday afternoons?!

I called the pcp back to confirm but had to leave a message with them too. WWYD?

I don't know about amoxicillin but I took a zpack (Zithromax) during both pregnancies

I knew that one was safe, I should have just asked for it! I don't think this chick is a good doctor. But she's the one I always get stuck with at the express clinic. I hope she calls back soon. Hopefully she will call me in a z pack.

Yes amoxicillian is safe to take. It's a category B medication, which is the same as Zithromax and Tylenol. I have no idea what that nurse was talking about. She probably didnt either.

P.S. amoxicillin is the best antibiotic for a sinus infection unless you have an allergy. I'd stick with amoxicillin.

Thanks cwhit. Now that I've calmed down a little and done a little googling, it seems ok. I still hope my OB calls. I seriously hate my RE's nurse.

Yes its safe. I took it with this pregnancy for a uti. Its category b.

I took it for an ear infection while PG - it's safe!!

Thanks ladies. The OB finally called and said the same. That darn nurse at the RE wil be the death of me!
