Blue Cross paid money to a third party company who sent me a letter. I called the third party company, as instructed, and spent several minutes answering questions about charges incurred by my son on June 5, 2013 so they could determine if this was an "accident" where another company could be held liable. That date? The day he was born. /head desk
None of the above had to happen if anyone had spent .02 seconds looking at ANY of the codes on his bill. They are all birth related.

Re: Another stupid example of why insurance is so GD expensive
And another,
I received DD#2's formula delivery this week - Alimentium. The cost is about $29 a can in stores.
We received 15 cans in the last shipment.
The invoice to my insurance from the formula supplier indicated that the cost to the insurer was $1,300, but 15 cans retail would be around $450.00 if you included sales tax.
So, if the insurance company pays the $1,300 (don't know if they do), the supplier is making almost a 200% profit.
