Some of the changes are to fix lighting and shadow issues. I have a hunch they did this shoot specifically for this purpose so kind of overdid things on purpose.
Buzzfeed had a thing trashing an old 1971 issue of Teen magazine, but I was struck by this picture Note how her stomach is actually scrunching up on her side the way real physics works. That would be photoshopped out in a modern picture, or at least very carefully angled differently.
-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.
I watched that yesterday. I don't even know why they bother taking pictures of real people. Just start from scratch and make it look like you want since that's what they do anyway and at least then we'd drop the pretense that these are supposed to represent actual people.
@LuckyDad yeah, a lot of it was lighting and stuff but they changed her eyes (shape and size), her entire body make up, her skin color - everything. I'm not sure there's one thing they left alone and if photographs are typically edited even a percentage of the work they did on that picture, it makes you realize how unrealistic it is to hope to look like a model.

Where did I see something about that? That the faces on some magazine covers are now CGI. And that they are becoming more prominent.
What saddens me is that they're now able to do this to TV and movies, too. They can realistically slim people per-frame and people just assume that's what the actor/actress looks like and wonders why they cannot look like them.
Okay, maybe they have the technology to do that, but that seems prohibitively expensive to actually do that rather than say "lose 10 pounds or you're fired."
it is sad. and it's mostly women too. but this totally explains why when i have (very sporadically) spotted a famous person somewhere, i always think to myself, "man! they are shorter, or not as skinny, or have smaller boobs than i thought!"

Unable to even.

And all these women in the gifs have under eye bags/circles like me! So there isn't some miracle cream they're all using after all.
