Re: temp Q

  • If her temp is still that high after giving a fever reducer all day, I would call the nurse line to see what they say.

  • I temp that high that won't come down with meds is a definite call to the on-call pediatrician.  You can try alternating Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen (I can never remember when one Advil is).  They're different meds that work in different ways, so as long as you keep them spaced out to their respective recommendations, you can alternate those to help.  But I really would at least call the pedi.

    Hope your LO feels better.

  • Like what @iwantnoworld said, you can alternate Tylenol and Advil every 3 hours as long as the temp is over 100.5. But if the temp is still over 102, I would call the doctor emergency line and then probably go to urgent care. I hope your LO feels better!
  • At 10 months I'd wait for an hour and see if the Advil brings her fever down. If she has no cold/flu symptoms (runny nose, cough) I'd take her in but otherwise I would just let it run it's course.

  • DS2 just got over Roseola. His fever went up to 105.3. We went to the ER because the on call Dr. at the pedi said anything over 104, go. That was also because their office was closed. If you're giving fever reducer and it's not working, I'd call the pedi.

  • Our pedi says in a child of any age, if fever is over 103 and medicine doesn't help, they should be seen. I'd think especially so in a young baby. Hope she feels better quickly! :(

  • Ditto the others.  The number itself isn't necessarily concerning but if it's not reacting to meds, THAT is concerning.  Is it coming down at all and then going back up or is it not reacting at all to the meds?  Sorry she's sick :(

  • Thanks everyone. I was slightly freaking out because it was 2 am and I was jolted out of my sleep to a burning up baby who would not stop crying. ahhh!! As soon as I posted this I realized I could just call the pedi, lol so I did and she just advised the advil and try and get some liquids in her (she had been refusing her bottle all day) I put a cold cloth over her head, she felt a lot cooler in the middle of the night AND SHE'S STILL SLEEPING AT 10 A.M

Hoping she wakes up and the fever has broke. Ya'll are wonderful. :)
