NBR: Recommend your toothpaste!

My mouth is changing. My old toothpaste isn't working good. My teeth just don't feel clean enough. Got anything that will last?

FTR I had just switched to regular Crest anti-cavity and am almost out. No matter how crazy I brush my teeth, gums, cheeks, and tongue, I don't feel I'm getting it clean.

Also, tooth brushes? I might as well get a new one when I get toothpaste. I'm using the oral-b one with the orange movable things on the sides. I can't remember what it's called. I'm not a big fan of it.

TIA!

Re: NBR: Recommend your toothpaste!

  • We use Arbonne's Pure Mint toothpaste.. all natural... and since being pregnant can only use soft bristle brushes.. doesn't make a difference to me what kind.

I LOVE the Arm & Hammer stuff, although I can ONLY use the one without peroxide or I end up with really dried out skin spots in the corner of my mouth.  DH wasn't sold on it at first, but now he agrees that his mouth feels so much cleaner with it and hates having to use something else.

ETA: and we have sonicare toothrbrushes - LOVE them. LOVE!

  • Colgate Total toothpaste with the mint stripe and Colgate 360 toothbrushes.  Perks of having a sister who works on their marketing.

  • We use Arm & Hammer Sensitive with Oragel and we love it! For toothbrushes we have Oral-B electric ones that are inexpensive.

I use colgate total fresh stripe or something and like that, DH uses sensodyne....But we both have the Sonicare toothbrushes and absolutely love them! I never feel like my teeth are clean if I use a regular toothbrush anymore! Highly recommend the Sonicare toothbrushes!

  • Just plain old Crest Tarter Control paste. I think it works better than a lot of the more fancy toothpastes.

  • I'm a dentist so I would recommend contacting your dental insurance, because many will pay for an extra cleaning while you are pregnant. Pregnancy hormones affect your mouth just like everything else and your are more susceptible to gingivitis while pregnant. I would recommend a Sonicare toothbrush as well. Toothpaste recommendation would be Colgate Total if it works for you. The best thing would be to get a professional cleaning.

I go tomorrow for mine! At 8:30 am. Lol. And I have to admit I'm nervous because I've never been to the dentist while pregnant. Lol. Which is weird because I absolutely love getting my teeth cleaned and stuff!
  • I love my sonicare toothbrush. My teeth ALWAYS feel super clean. I use the sensitive setting on it and don't have any issues with it. Any toothpaste works well for me, although I prefer aquafresh over most others.
  • Someone here posted this all natural toothpaste that looked awesome.  I think I bookmarked it...https://www.earthpaste.com

We use melaleuca brand now.  It had tea tree oil and myrrh in it.  I like it better than any typical store brand.

  • I switched to a cinnamon toothpaste when regular mint was making me gag and I haven't gone back. I think it's Crest pro-health. I feel fresh and clean, but no puking after brushing! Bonus!

  • I'm hoping once the dentist is done with me, I can ask him what he thinks. I decided to not get toothpaste last night since I still have a couple uses left I would be seeing him today.

Y'all gave me too many good options! It was hard to choose lol. I will probably get the sonicare toothbrush since that's a given it seems.

    So many toothpaste choices!!!
  • I agree with others that Arm & Hammer is the way to go.  I was never picky about my toothpaste before, but had to switch early on in pregnancy.  I read that pregnancy hormones can make your saliva more acidic, so baking soda made sense.  Specifically, I use Arm & Hammer Dental Care Advance Cleaning Daily Fluoride Toothpaste with Baking Soda, Fresh Mint
    I love it!

We have Oral B electric toothbrushes, which work SO much better than any manual toothbrush I've ever had.
