Bean Sprouts

Ok, so was really looking forward to my pad thai. I take a bite and remember there's bean sprouts. They seem warm. I decide to call the restaurant to make sure they aren't raw, and apparently, some are. I only have a bite, but I read that that could be enough on a single bean sprout. Now I'm freaking out. Any insight or advice?

Re: Bean Sprouts

  • I had not heard bean sprouts were something to avoid.

  • Eat them. I always do when they're in things or heated up.

  • I haven't heard that you should avoid bean sprouts, and they are certainly not on the list that my OB gave me.  I would eat them.

  • From what I remember, bean sprouts are only potentially an issue if they aren't properly cleaned. There isn't something inherently wrong with bean sprouts. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Eat your pad thai. It won't be an issue.

  • I'm assuming they fall into the sprouts category which apparently are risky anytime, not just pregnant time.  However ,I eat them on a regular basis. Obviously, I avoid them while pregnant just because...but, I'd still eat a bowl of thai food with sprouts every once in a while!

  • I had seen the same thing so I started asking for pad thai without it. Who knows really :/ but you ate them already don't even worry about it . But if it's a doubt in your mind just order it without next time. That's what I did. I ate them too hehe

  • I just had them in Chinese tonight. Never heard anything about avoiding them before.
  • I avoid them but I've been known to slip (if I know they'll be sautéed for example). Generally, they are some of the sketchiest food out there, in terms of potential food poisoning.

It's still super rare though, you'll be fine! Ask for the pad Thai with no sprouts next time just to be sure. :)
