39 weeks--need middle name for Henrietta

We've settled on Henrietta for a FN, but I'm still not in love with a MN.  I feel like Henrietta goes best with a short name that doesn't also end in -a.  Unfortunately, a lot of my favorite names just sound too sing-songy with it (Sylvia, Norma, etc.).  I'm looking for something with either with an old-lady vibe (but not your standard Rose or Grace), or an Irish name.  Right now, are top choices are:

Henrietta Hazel

Henrietta Maeve

Henrietta Violet

What do you think of those choices?  Any other suggestions?

  • I don't like the double H of Henrietta Hazel. I also don't like the sound of Henrietta Violet, violet is too strong a choice next to Henrietta. I love Henrietta Maeve! I think Maeve adds so much polish to Henrietta!

What about a variant of Sylvia like Sylvie? Henrietta Sylvie sounds sweet and looks lovely.

How many syllables is your last name? That would be the deciding factor as far as rhythm is concerned. I agree that the middle should be one or two syllables, softer in sound, and not end with an a sound. Do you care if the name has meaning, or do you just want it to sound nice?

I think a lovely flower name would soften up Henrietta.. something like Iris. Or a simple one syllable name like Jane or Claire. Or you could go off beat and classic... Henrietta Clarice, Henrietta Lorraine, Henrietta Beatrice, Henrietta Pearl, etc.
  • Just wanted to add a note - after seeing it written, I really like Henrietta Lorraine. The double r in Lorraine balances the double t in Henrietta. It looks really beautiful when written and sounds nice too.
  • I really like Henrietta Maeve!

    Other suggestions:
    Henrietta Mae
    Henrietta Lucille
    Henrietta Jean
    Henrietta June

Thanks for all the advice!  Henriette Maeve is in first place right now.  LO's last name is only two syllables, so it isn't too much of a mouthful, but it is also a noun, so I feel a little funny using other nouns, such as flower names, or adjectives, as midldle names.  Thats why I think Violet is probably out.

I really like Henrietta Jane, Henrietta June, and Henrietta Mae.  We don't have any family names or people we want to honor right now, just looking for a nice combination.

  • Don't use June if you want to avoid another noun!

D'oh!  I didn't even think of that.  I guess June is out.

Dunno if that was mentioned already.

  • With a 4 syllable first name and a 2 syllable last name, I am going to recommend that the middle be one syllable. You will use it far more often that way and it will sound better.

I like Henrietta Maeve, Jane, and Mae. To me, Mae is practically Maeve but with less spunk. Just go with the gorgeous Maeve!!
  • I like Henrietta Violet!

  • I like Henrietta hazel. I also like the Maeve option and the Lorraine that was mentioned. I like Mabel as well
  • First, I love love love Henrietta.  I wish DH felt the same way.

Second, of your choices, I like the flow of Henrietta Maeve best.  (I love Hazel, but I'm not loving the way Henrietta Hazel sounds)

Third, if you're looking for further suggestions, I think Henrietta Pearl or Henrietta Louise sound nice.

Of your choices, I like Maeve best.  I'm working for Harriett Ruth if we have a girl (DH's not on board...yet :) ), and Henrietta Ruth sounds nice too.
  • Loving all the suggestions!  I love Iris and Pearl, but I think they are out because of the "noun" thing.  Also love Louse, but it is too close to DD1's name, Eloise.  I want to love Ruth, and I love the NN Ruthie, but Ruth itself sounds a little harsh to me.  Plus, I always think of Goonies, and Sloth saying "Baby ROOTH."

My favorite Irish name is Finnoula, but that is way too much of a mouthful.  I've never heard Niamh before!  I'll have to think on that.  I would love to honor my Irish heritage.
