Bradenton/Sarasota OB Recommendations

Hi Ladies,I just moved to Bradenton from Kansas City and I am in need of a new OB/GYN.  I was hoping some of you would have some advice on some great Dr.'s as well as hospital. I have heard that Sarasota Memorial is good.  I would like someone who is willing to try alternatives and just doesn't push drugs to get through delivery.  Any recommendations would be appreciated!!!

When we lived in Bradenton we had dr Swanson I liked him a lot. started out with Dr Skene but he was horrible. Now in Sarasota and I have Dr Jamison and he is great

I will be giving birth at Sarasota memorial hopefully in the next 3 weeks and if you haven't taken the free tour I suggest it the l&d and mother baby unit are all brand new and upgraded =], DR. Shawn Stephens at university park ob/gyn is such an amazing doctor and his staff makes you feel so comfortable, its a small practice so it is more personal I don't feel like "just another pregnant lady" good luck to you =]

As both a patient and an OB nurse, I'd recommend Associates in Gynecology in Sarasota.  Dr. Cohen and Dr. Sullivan are the best OB/GYN doctors I've ever met, both because they're competent, and also very good at individualizing care according to your needs.

I'm new to the area and looking for an obgyn. I have one child but recently found out I was pregnant. I called Dr Garners office to make an appointment because he seems to have great reviews, but they didn't want me to come in till I was 10 weeks along. That seems kinda far out to me, also they said that come time of delivery the midwife will be handling and not the doctor, but if she's busy then the doctor will do it…this is not what I'm used to. Is this normal here? I know a lot has changed with health care but this just seems odd to me.

I go to Gulf Coast OB/GYN next to Sarasota Memorial which is where Dr Garner is located (but I don't actually use him). Their office has 5 physicians and 3 midwives. If you are low risk, they will typically rotate you through the 3 midwives and your physician so that you can get acquainted with all of them. I personally prefer a midwife as I am low risk and like the more natural approach. Although that office and Sarasota Memorial in general has done a lot to offer more natural strategies. The first appointment is usually 8-10 weeks (mine was at 8 weeks). They have to wait this long in order to get a good transvaginal ultrasound to confirm pregnancy and a heartbeat. If you prefer your doctor to deliver, you just have to let them know and they will do their best to accomodate. Otherwise, if you are low risk, they let the midwives handles. OB/GYN's are specialists in high risk pregnancies and C-Sections... so they typically handle those special cases more closely and let the midwives handle the low risk patients. I love this office and staff! They answer all of my questions, don't rush me, and make me comfortable. I hope this helps you!
