Wine?

DH and I are granted our first date night tonight! I will nurse him right before we leave and I don't think we will be gone longer than 3 hrs. MIL has a bottle to give DS if needed while we're gone. So my question is can I have my first glass of wine this year at dinner tonight??! Anyone use those alcohol test strips or know how long it would take a glass of wine to get out of my breastmilk?

It's the same as your blood alcohol level. So I was told at a minimum 2 hours before you breastfeed for one glass, although that always depends for each individual and how their body holds the alcohol!

A glass or two is just fine. If you are good enough to drive, you are good to BF.

This. I have heard the test strips aren't really that reliable.

Drink it. With the bottle you have plenty of time! Even without the bottle you'd have time for a glass. Just don't drink the whole bottle of wine!

Mmm... wine!  That sounds soooo good right now!

I've been told to pump and dump after a couple of drinks.  I don't think that's necessary though and agree with the ladies above.

I've heard if you are safe to drive you are safe to BF. Also, if you just wait to sober up fully before feeding, your milk is totally fine, even if you were drunk while the milk was being produced. The alcohol leaves the milk as you sober up. So if you leave a bottle for the feeding while you're gone then you could drink wine (more than one glass, frankly), and pump after the alcohol leaves your system. Basically, the only reason to ever "pump and dump" is if you feel too engorged to let the milk sit there and you must remove the milk before waiting to sober up. But honestly one glass of wine is fine even if you were feeding your child right afterward (unless you weigh like 80 lbs or something!)

I'm guilty and have a drink a night... Now I have a LO with terrible reflux and cries 90% of the time so it helps enough... You will be fine!! You need to enjoy yourself!! Worst case scenario, another bottle.

My doctor told me have a glass of wind, wait two hours before nursing, and don't waste my money on the test strips. Enjoy!
