Halloween ice cream party

I'm running a Halloween party for elementary kids Wednesday and we're doing a last minute change to 1 of our stations.

We're thinking of doing a create your own monster sundae station. What do you think of the idea and what toppings would you provide?

Thanks!

Re: Halloween ice cream party

  • Our elementary school does this for the winter party. The PTO provides the ice cream and parents send in toppings. It's surprisingly never become a mess.

candy eyeballs, pretzel sticks for arms, starburst candy corn for teeth, sprinkles, jimmies for hair and fur, syrup

  • How old are the kids...? I'd be afraid they'd drip ice cream all over their costumes. IMO, bad idea!

  • It's young elementary, and they are wearing costumes. Their parents supervise them, with my high school students running the activities. I love all the topping ideas.

I'm not at all worried about the mess in my end, but pp saying they might drip on costumes has a good point. As a parent, would lots of napkins and the suggestion to use them as bibs help allay this fear? I don't want the parents to hate us, but we're doing away with another messy food activity (donuts on a string) this year and wanted to replace it with something else sugary and fun.
  • @Soxgirl07 ...what about a decorate your own cupcake? It's still fun but less mess than ice cream.

TBH, I'd be kinda ticked if my kid ruined his costume right before ToTing.

We just had a decorate your cookie bar for the younger kids at the craft fest - we had red and green frosting and candy corns and brown m&ms to make lizards and ladybugs but you could easily expand frosting colors and make pumpkin and ghost faces and such.

  • Hm. I hear what you're saying, but it's ice cream or nothing. We usually get at least 200 kids. I'm not making that many cupcakes.
  • Mini cupcakes...? I'd choose to skip the ice cream, but that's me.
