Success after IF

Every misconception about IF in the book...I knew yall would appreciate my annoyance.

So I am on a facebook group for pre-e survivors.  It has proved very helpful since my BP is already going up again in this pregnancy.  Most of the people on there seem to be very educated about medicine and their bodies, etc...or, at least, with respect to pre-e and high blood pressure.  But yesterday a woman who had lost a baby asked about IF.  She lost a baby to pre-e and since that time (over a year) has been trying to conceive without success...I think she had been trying for about 15 months or so.  OMG!  The comments people were telling her: "Just relax and it will happen."  "Don't stress. That is what is causing you to not get pregnant. I was stressed out and then I quit worrying about it and got KU."  "Lose weight. I lost 5 pounds and got pregnant."  My personal favorite was someone who told her that she just needed more "me time."

Here is the real kicker: The woman was not even having AF.  If this has been 3 or 4 months after she had lost her baby, I could see.  But not 15 months later!  Come on, people. If you aren't even having AF, that is likely indicative of a medical or hormonal problem.  I was the only one who told her to go see an RE immediately.  It just annoyed me that even in a relatively educated group of people, they still seemed to think that "just relaxing" would fix her problem.

  • Ugh. A coworker was talking to me about IF (I'm very open about my battle) and she asked if my problem was genetic. I told her no, but mentioned that my mom has her own struggles, adopted my siblings, and then along I came. I should really have shut up, because OF COURSE that supports the "just adopt! Then you'll get KU!" >_< ...which apparently is what she's been telling her SIL for a couple years. I gently asked her to never ever ever say that to her again.

  • Yeah, the really sad thing I kept thinking was that it sounded to me like she might be in POI or POF because of all of her other symptoms...that is why I was strongly encouraging her to get to an RE asap.  With something like POF/POI sitting around and continuing to try on your own in the hopes that you will just get lucky is about the worst advice you can give someone...because six months or a year literally could make a difference.  I mean, I am on a POI/POF and even ladies who have not had a cycle in years and have FSH's of like 150 still occasionally get pregnant naturally, but you can't assume the 5% that happens to is going to be you. And especially not when time is working against you...
