Elf on the Shelf

Please educate me on this.

We don't have it (yet) and my stepson said I'm depriving them all by not doing it, I don't even know what it is.

Thanks!

People set him up in funny poses. I find him a tad creepy, but it looks like something cute to do with the kids.

  • Do a search for funny Elf on the Shelf pictures. They range from potty humor to threesomes with Barbies. And then there's this take on the book "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie:"

  • I bought one for Ds last year, then gave it away to my cousin Bc ain't nobody got time for that. I'm already lying to them about Santa, I guess I don't need to add a creeper doll to the mix

  • @LoveActually4 you could try doing the same activity with a doll or action figure. In a few years I'm thinking DD would love making a santa hat out of felt to put on a doll...or how about Batman? That would be awesome. $30 for an elf is a bit much.

  • We got one as a gift last year and I'm looking forward to doing it again this year.  We don't make our elf do crazy things, we just move him around every night and tell Betsy that he's reporting bad behavior to Santa.
  • I thinks he's funny. We are getting one for DS this year. We will see how it pans out...
  • We do not do elaborate schemes with ours. He just moves from room to room. DH even got him sitting in our second story foyer window last year. The boys liked that. It doesn't have to be a huge thing.

  • Team creepy. My DH has a coworker whose kids are terrified of it. I agree with the kids. It reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode about a killer doll... :shudders:

  • We did this last year, and the kids loved it. Our elf didn't do bad things, she just landed different places in the house, and the kids had to find her every morning.

  • My kids LOVE it.  We don't do any of the elaborate stuff.  It's hard enough to remember to move him every night.  But they are so excited to find him in the morning.  It's very cute.  My daughter named him Donald the first year when she was 3.  She told me the other day that she really hopes that Donald comes back this year.  She's 6.
  • I think it's creepy, but I kind of want to get one because it's creepy.

  • It creeps me out, but who knows, maybe I'll cave and get one if the girls ask.

  • I'm thinking about starting it. If it gets DD excited and amuses her, why not?
