Was anyone on bed rest?

My SIL is 27 weeks and on bed rest, she has been for a few weeks now. I'm trying to get over to her house (45 min away) at least once a week. What is most helpful to someone in that situation? I'm pretty sure the company is number 1 for her, but what else can I do? I'm gonna try to get some laundry and cleaning done, which will be interesting with 2 LOs along, also bringing dinner.

Oh AND a side note, her DH is in med school finishing up his rotations. He just started a new crazy schedule so he won't be around during the day and I'm sure he'll be pretty exhausted when he's home.

  • To add to crash's idea, maybe get her some non-perishable snacks to keep bedside? Granola bars, fruit bars, dried fruit, trail mix, bottled water, etc.

  • Also, could you maybe pick up some grocery essentials for her when you do your own food shopping each week?

  • I wasn't technically on bed rest I just couldn't do anything because of my hyperemesis. It sounds like you have things covered.

The biggest things for me were house cleaning and company. My husband was working full time and going to school full time. Not being able to do anything was very isolating and I was very lonely. I liked getting cards in the mail. I always seemed to get one on my worst days which helped. Maybe pick up some magazines for her to look through or some activity she can do in bed. My mom and I tried crocheting one night she was visiting.

It is very nice of you to do so much for her.

  • I was on bed rest with Liam. It was super boring and lonely. Maybe get her a book or two (the new Divergent book is out and it's an excellent series). I loved having magazines to read or even catalogs to look at. I also watched a ton of tv.

Fresh fruits and veggies where she can easily access them for snacks would be nice.

Maybe give the bathroom a quick wipe down and swish.

Everyone else had awesome ideas. :)
