How to make a child not be scared?

DS is scared. of everything.

He is scared of going down new slides. He is scared of power wheels. He is scared of showers. He is scared to jump off things more than 4 inches off the ground. He is scared to ride on anyone's shoulder. He is just scared of everything.

If we push him and get him used to it, he is absolutely fine and ends up loving whatever it is, but it is so frustrating! Is there anyway to make him a little more brave and adventurous? Or just keep doing what we are doing?

He is 3.5.

My step son was scared of everything when he was little. He is 11 now and goes with the flow now! We would try to encourage him to try new things, but we would never force... Forcing would backfire and make him more afraid!

My SDs were both scared of everything. Now one is still scared and one isnt so I have no clue.
