Pillow in crib?

Every night we have family cuddle in our big bed.  DS gets some cuddles, a bottle, then he wiggles around and gets comfy and passes out.  Then he gets moved to his crib for the night.  He always seems to find a pillow on the bed, lies down on it and boom - out like a light.  My suspicion is that if he had a pillow (probably one of ours so it smells the same) in his crib, he'd wiggle around in there and fall asleep easily.  I'm not sold on putting a pillow in there though, because of suffocation risk (he likes to sleep face-down).  He's cruising and starting to take a few steps on his own right now, so physically he's really strong.  What do you think?

Re: Pillow in crib?

  • I am not sure if this helps - My daughter sleeps with me in our bed. She has a small flat pillow that she sleeps on. When she was 2 months she got RSV and was having trouble breathing. Due to our pedi's advice, I started letting her use a pillow. When she got better I just let her sleep on it.

DD sometimes crawls onto the pillow next to me in bed to sleep (we bedshare).  Sometimes she even ends up on my pillow when she's being clingy.

DS1 used a pillow in his crib around age one.

  • I personally would not risk it.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • Like@DC said, we've been using one of the harder, flatter decorative pillows from our bed.  It's actually a full-sized pillow, it's just the sham that matches our comforter.  I put it in his bed one night when he was really struggling to breathe and not cough one night when he first got sick.  Since he's still a little phlemy and coughing-- and SLEEPING a lot better all of a sudden-- I am loathed to take it out!  I figure he is strong enough to roll around and he frequently covers his own face with his snuggly blanket... he's big enough to uncover his face if he turns down on the pillow.  But he doesn't sleep more than three hours consecutively though.
