First time moms!

Alright first time mommy's, has it "HIT" your husband/SO yet that they are having a baby within a month? My SO is so excited to meet LO but he seems to think that the due date is THE day he will arrive....HAHA! He also has not packed a bag or anything to that extent. I don't think it has totally sunk in that we are having a baby any day now and he should probably prepare himself for that!

Re: First time moms!

  • I still don't think it has hit me!!! (but I am prepared! I packed for him and just ask him time from time when I need his help with something)

  • Umm yeah I am 38 weeks and like halfway in labor and I'm dragging my feet on the whole hospital bag packing thing.. And I am in complete denial that she will be here soon. Her room has been set up for weeks. We have everything we need and then some.. But I literally do not understand what is about to happen. Also I am being induced between 39-40 weeks if she doesn't appear on her own. I'm finding denial a very comfortable place to be :) not sure how DH is doing with the reality of it other than I know he is excited and truly cannot wait to meet her.

  • I don't think it has really hit either of us that it really will be pretty soon (I'm 37w 4 days). We pretty much have everything ready that we'll need (except I'm still dragging my feet on packing the bag...). We'll talk about how he/she will be here in less than a month, but I really don't think that deep down we're at all mentally prepared for becoming a family of three!
  • I'm pretty laid back to begin with, but I have been trying to pick up the pace. I have a list of what I need to put in my bag last minute and I still have a few things I want to buy. I will pack SO's bag the day of with some snacks and comfy clothes. Everything is ready for LO though.

I still can't decide what kind of underwear to get for PP. I don't want to ruin my normal pairs.

I am also in denial about the challenges of labor, but I guess that stems from never having been in labor before.

  • My husband, who got his vasectomy reversed, for us to have this baby had been acting like he was going to jail. It was starting to hurt my feelings. All of the sudden since last week he can shut up about the baby. He keeps asking when he's coming, he wants to play with him. It's so cute. This is his second round as a dad so I can understand how crazy it is for him to have a daughter going off to college in 8 months and a newborn. I'm mostly mentally prepared, just not ready for all the changes that will soon be happenning. It's going to be interesting. I just can't wait to see his face. :-)
  • We've gotten the important things ready but I'm ignoring the labor part as much as possible. The first days and weeks with LO scare me so I'm trying not to think about it. DH has moments where it hits him but I don't think he realizes the hardwork it will be. He said the other day that he couldn't wait for me to be off work for 8 weeks like it's an extremely long vacation. Ha! I'm so worried about caring for a newborn while being sleep deprived and healing from delivery.

  • DH and I seem to be taking turns freaking out. We had a movie night last night and I think we switched off panicking about 5 different times. Whoever is not panicking is doing the reassuring, so I guess on some strange level it works!

This is us too. We are alternating freak out sessions.

  • I'm actually very proud of my SO. The other day he asked if I have our bags packed for the hospital and today he admitted that he's still scared. We planned this pregnancy, so DD is very wanted and loved, but I have to agree with him, its scary as a first time parent! I think I'd be worked if he wasn't scared, and I'm proud of him for admitting it.

  • Yeah; I second the freaking out part.

I'm really excited, the nursery has been done, his clothes are all ready; but I am dragging my feet on the bags for the hospital.

I'm freaking out about labor, running through all the worst scenarios. Hubby is just freaking out period. Partly cause he worries about all the bad things that could happen come delivery, but he also has the first time dad mentality of his life being over. But I think once he holds his little boy all of that will disappear.

  • Oh man! Hope you feel okay.

Thank you very much. I am basically living at the OB's these days.. 2 NSTs a week and 2 OB appointments a week but it's more than worth it if baby girl is okay. I can't even tell you the relief I will feel when she is safe & healthy in my arms!
  • DH is a lot more calm and ready than I am. Scheduled c section for Halloween (5 days... What?!?!). He's got the pack n play, swing, and stroller all ready to go. It was cute, he was wheeling the stroller around the other day and doing wheelies, he's excited :)

  • My BF is super excited and anxious to meet baby girl.  He keeps talking to my belly trying to coax her out early so I can't hog her any more. lol  He's had his hospital bag mostly packed since our TPTL scare in August and we had a good dry run in L&D Thursday night/Friday (Dilated to 5 cm upon arriving, progressed to 6cm throughout the night and then everything stalled :( )  He's surprisingly calm and ready for this.
