What's A Lovey

OK so I have seen them mentioned a decent amount on this board and others but I am not exactly sure what it is or what their purpose is.  Are they meant to be like a security blanket?  I just kept seeing things about them and figured I would actually ask. TIA

    Yup. It's a security blanket or stuffed animal. Whatever LO has become attached too and needs for bed or naps.  DS still doesn't have one, but loves his binkies.

    usually they are referring to the blankets with the animal heads on them
