I trust my nanny, doesn't mean I trust her judgement in picking a babysitter while she goes off to play a game.

The ILs should have been upfront about EVERYTHING so that the OP had the option to find other accommodations.  If my ILs did this it would be a cold day in hell before I trusted them in any shape or form with kids.

They should have been upfront, okay. But grandparents aren't the nanny so that's a poor analogy. I don't know, maybe I'm just spoiled here. Because while no one can love my DD like DH and I do, our parents come pretty damn close. They're not hired caregivers.

  • OP I think the moral of the story is, don't ever ask internet strangers whether you have a right to be pissed.  You will get a whole bunch of responses from the coolest, most down to earth moms ever telling you that if they trust someone to watch their child, they trust everything they say and do and that person has free reign of their kid for however long.  And yes, I am totally rolling my eyes at everyone who said that OP has no right to be pissed that a complete stranger that neither she nor her IL's have ever met are watching her kid, because she is the one that trusted IL's to watch her kid in the first place.  Get real people.

I think a majority of the responses were very much in the opposite direction.  That said, I think people on the internet tend to do this whole, my kid, my rules, etc etc but in real life how many people are truly that way.  Probably not that many.  Easy to talk the talk, you know?

Regardless of how you feel on this issue the whole thing was bound to be polarizing from the get go.
