What are you stocking up on (non-baby essentials)

Everyone says that the few few days, perhaps weeks, of bringing a new baby home is exhausting and stressful. You are sleep deprived, easy meals are best, etc. However, one of the many unique things about adoption is you don't always know when that moment is going to arrive. Sure, some of us have showers and stock up on the basic baby essentials to bring baby home and get through the first night, but what non-baby things should we stock up on?

For example: I've typed all of our family addresses into a label document so that hubby can just print it out and stick on the envelopes for announcements. I figure writing all of the addresses out will be a difficult task once baby is home. (We have a big family).

I can't really freeze meals, they could be in there awhile LOL.

Suggestions?

  • Paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste--- anything that you are prone to run out of and think "Oh I'll just run to the store" 'cause there is no more just running to the store.

  • I thought that way as well before bringing DD home. But, to be honest a newborn sleeps a lot. Since your body isn't going to be tired from giving birth you may just find yourself sitting around over analyzing every little sound baby makes and just watching and waiting for those little eyes to open. It might be a good thing if you don't over prepare just so you have a few thing to do.

  • I will echo Amazon! I also have the prime account and love the free 2 day shipping. I buy so much from there including things like the kids vitamins, etc. Most of the time the prices are cheaper. (My brother bought $400 worth of new car parts on there last night for $160). My kids will even ask me now when they are looking at a toy in a store "Mom, how much is it on Amazon?"

  • Thanks ladies. We're on Amazon and we are constantly comparison shopping. We buy so much off of there with the free 2 day shipping, I almost feel bad for the fedX guy.

  • I've found it was so much easier to shop when they're a newborn than when they get older.  Our daughter is 10 months old and I pretty much only shop after my husband comes home from work.  It gives me a little "vacation" every now and then.  With that said, we did stock up on diapers but I don't suggest buying formula.  We stocked up on lots of formula only to have to switch her to soy at 1 month.  So I ended up having to get rid of lots of canisters of formula that we couldn't use :P
