But I also kind of got a pain Olympics vibe though. Just because she supports breast cancer one way doesn't mean that's the only way to do it.
But she's saying that pink washing or whatever game-like initiative actually does nothing to support breast cancer, in fact it trivializes it. So, yes, there are lots of ways to support BC research or survivors, but buying random pink crap or reposting some FB vague status is not really support.
And the no bra thing? Doesn't that feel like a slap in the face to breast cancer survivors, especially ones who have undergone mastectomies? I just don't see how anyone can think that is a good idea. Or supportive.
I agree with her 100%. Most people are "aware" of breast cancer. We need to move on to helping people fight it with meaningful efforts. It's great that it's not something people are unaware of but it's become too commercialized and silly. I mean come on - no one should believe that it matters that you post "Red!" on your FB wall because someone is supposed to ask you why, you're supposed to tell them it's the color of your bra and that somehow is supposed to have any impact on the disease.
Re: Breast cancer survivor blogs about "no bra day" and "pinkwashing".
WOW-- that was a really well written article-- I am sharing it with some co-workers.
How brave to post that photo as well.
