I planned on trasitioning my son to his own bed before the arrival of his little sister, but it hasn't seemed to be the right time...Ugh, so now I'm faced with figuring out how to keep everyone safe. I used a rock n' play with our son when he was 2-3 months old- but I feel like she will be so tiny when she first arrives and I will most likely have her swaddled as is it winter (ds never cared for being swaddled), so I won't be able to buckle her into the rnp. Do you guys recommend any specific cosleeper that would be safe to use with ds in our bed and also easy for nursing and keeping our little dd close by? TIA!
You could use an arms reach co-sleeper or just side car the crib. Really you just have to make sure that baby is never next to big sibling - but that goes without saying as baby should only ever be beside mama
We had DS1 sleep between DH and I while DS2 was just next to me. We have a crib side-carred to our bed so DS2 was part in our bed, part on the flush crib mattress. For naps, in the DS2 newborn days I would wrap DS2 on me while I sat next to DS1 as he fell asleep. Then, when DS1 was asleep, I'd lay DS1 down elsewhere or keep wearing him. For times when I wasn't going to stay in bed , having a twin-sized floor bed was VERY helpful. It gave us more options for where to lay down, where to transfer a kid to, etc.
When we have one of our older ones join us in bed, we just have them lay on DHs side (outside) and I keep the NB on my outside. We also have a king bed, which helps.

Do you have a King size bed? I think you could do baby, you, DH, and then toddler. I've been looking at these options for co-sleeping this time but I think they will only work if we upgrade to a King.
We were able to transition DS to his own bed by putting a queen mattress on the floor of his room and cuddling him to sleep. If he wakes at night, DH goes in and sleeps the rest of the night with him in there. He's almost two.
