Update: still need help. Rash help! PIP

Update: I washed the last load in country save and yesterday the rash was getting better. Last night I put her in a prefold that was washed with the new detergent and she woke up worse this morning! Much redder and a bigger area. Will it take time to fully get rid of the tide from my dipes or should I start looking for another cause?

My 3 month old has this nasty rash and I'm not sure what it is. It was there slightly this morning and then got way worse after wearing a RaR pocket this morning. It's only on her front side and along the inside of her legs where her diaper touches. It doesn't seem to hurt. We have been using CJs all day and I just put some grandma el's on it.

  • Ouch! That looks like detergent sensitivity which is showing up after she pees. What's your wash routine and what detergent?

  • We have been using tide powder since she was born. I wash every other day. We have well water, a water softener that is currently out of salt, and 2 in line filters before the water makes it to the washer. I do a warm rinse-no detergent, a hot wash with 2 heaping tablespoons of tide powder, a cold rinse. And another cold or warm rinse. I line dry my shells and dryer dry the inserts/prefolds/doublers/liners.

  • Is the inside of the dipe real or synthetic? Could it be a sensitivity to the fabric? Someone with a brain remind me what that's called?

  • She has been wearing these diapers for a few months now without issues. I think it's actually from the prefold she was wearing overnight since it's on the inside of her legs too and only on her front side (she's a belly sleeper). She popped a tooth today so hopefully it's just a teething rash :/

  • No, that's definitely from the dipe, not teething. Either wetness, detergent, or fabric sensitivity. Tide powder is known for sensitivity. And it can develop after using the same detergent for a while

  • I washed the load from today with
Country save we had from a superstash order. I guess we will see if that does the trick.

  • Bump.

  • Don't just bump it, update it. What's the deal now? Did you switch detergents? What happened? Is the rash better? Worse? Different? Did she wear the prefold you previously suspected again?

  • I updated the OP.

  • Could there be something about the prefold? You could always do a hot water strip to get the old detergent out.

  • Ok-I'm doing a hot water strip and there are no bubbles at all. Is it possible that my dipes aren't clean enough and she's finally reacting to a build up of yuckies? They don't smell at all though.

  • Is it just the one prefold? Toss it.

I don't know why I didn't think of this. Maybe?? And now it's back in the wash with the rest of my dipes...
