6 months is the suggested "average", it's not like they turn 6 months and something clicks. You should go by readiness rather than age...you should also listen to everything I say
DS seems ready already and isn't yet 6 months. I guess I'm just wanting to know if I'm a horrible mom for attempting at 5.5 months, which would be 6 months based on EDD
Both my kids were a month early and we were told to start solids based on birthday not EDD. I started at 5.5 months for both, maybe a week or so before their 6 month checkup.
I had no problems, I say if they're developmentally ready, go for it.
DS is 6 months in 2 days, showing the proper cues and signs, but dammit, I'M not ready for this. Baby food making experimenting commences this weekend. Ugh.
With dd we started with sweet potatoes. Avocado is also a great first baby food.
We waited for readiness. Which for us was picking up food off our plate and putting it into his mouth. Cade did this at about 5.5 months. We then went home and made him some finger foods and the rest is history. Cade's a great eater. Rosie started at around the same time.
We started around 4.5 months...avocado for a couple weeks, then sweet potato if I recall. He did great, didn't slow down in nursing, and is a great eater now. I think each baby is different, just follow their lead
