Wieners and Teeth

So our little guy has discovered his penis.  Super fun that he tries to grab himself when you take off his diaper.  Or that he stares deep in your eyes and rubs himself during bath time.  I thought we had more time before this happened.  Five months seems too early.

In other news, our doc thinks his teeth will be coming in within a week or so.  We took him in because he was fussy and tugging at his ears.  We thought it might have an ear infection starting.  Thankfully no ear infection, but we are bracing ourselves for teething.

  • 5 months is about right for penis grabbing, although that level of focus is rather impressive.

-My son was born in April 2012. He pretty much rules.
  • It doesn't take them long at all to find it... it is the one "toy" they are always guaranteed to have with them.  You'll be lucky to keep the little hands out of poop and be able to wash his penis without having to remove his death grip from it during bath time.
  • Yeah he's already tried to play in a poopy diaper.  That was the first time I knew he was aware of it.

  • My LO still does this at times.  Since he is no longer in diapers he doesn't play with poop.

  • My son has made it a point to stand up in the bathtub the last two months when we first put him in, and look at us as he pees.  When he is done, he sits down and starts playing as if it was totally normal.

I think it is pretty cool, actually.  He is starting to understand the concept, it appears.

As far as playing with it, he better be!!  What guy doesn't want to whenever he can??

  • Thankfully the doc was right about the teeth.  His 2nd tooth just broke through a couple days ago.  Sleep is still disrupted because of it though.

  • Teething is the worst.  Our guy has 6 teeth, and two more are just starting to work their way out.  He is a trooper, and with the Orajel he is able to handle it pretty well.  It is to the point now that he makes sure I get it all over his gums.  He didn't even do that a week ago.

His peeing habits are pretty cool though.  I am very proud of him just standing up in the tub and peeing.  Means he is learning from watching me pee.  I have been holding him in my arm while I pee from time to time since he was 6 months old.  I think it is going to payoff and he will be more confident potty training in the upcoming year or two.

  • @polooo26, the three day program is awesome.  We did that over Labor Day and now our son goes most days without an accident.

He does at times stand on the toilet seat so he can pee standing up.

I thought that instantly.  Reads like the title of a learning guide for young brides!!  Sometimes, gentle teeth are nice.

Yeah, I read the e-book and it sounds pretty solid. It's all about getting him to do it with encouragement and love. Discipline and punishment for accidents it highly discouraged. I'm all over that.

Any parent that doesn't expect accidents during the training process is a loser.  As sick as I am of diaper changes, his confidence in learning how to do things, and overcoming failure successfully, is much, much more important to me.

on a sidenote this is a really tragically named thread. Like truly cringeworthy, lol
Go watch the movie 'Teeth' and you'll really cringe.  Thread title got people's attention though so it worked.

  • What we did also was I bought a bunch of toy cars to give as random rewards based on how well he was doing.  Then I got a bigger pack of cars as a reward for doing so well after the weekend.  We also moved him from crib to big boy bed at the same time.  We threw a lot at him and he did well until the weekend that my wife worked when we had more accidents mainly because I think he was uncomfortable at the time with me helping.
