Daycare just called. WDPT

To tell me that DS is having a rough day. Apparently he is pushing, hitting, and pinching. This is not his normal demeanor, and they were calling to see if I had any suggestions. Umm idk time-out or re-direct him? I hate to say this but he has picked up all of this from the other kids at daycare (they let him play with the older kids at night b/c he is the only one in his class). I kinda feel like they wanted me to come get him. BUT I cannot take off of work every time he is having a rough day... WDPT?

  • Ugh, the "trash talk" DD learns at daycare ... she's always telling me THAT'S MINE or IT'S MY TURN or I HAD IT FIRST. She's a much indulged only child so it's not like she learned it at home.

I wouldn't pick him up. This is what you're paying them for.

  • That's annoying. Now you're spending your day thinking about him having a bad day vs. work.

  • @hilarityensued I did tell them that if time-out isn't working then some "quiet time" with minimal distractions usually help. We do this at home by going into his room (away from toys ect) and reading a book or singing a soft song.
  • Ug...getting a phone call like that would make ME want to hit and bite people.

Sorry you have to deal with that.  DD's DCP usually tells us at the end of the day when we pick her up if there was an issue-- usually for her that means excessive crying.

  • How weird. Yeah, not your problem. They surely can't think you're gonna pick him up because he's acting like a toddler?!

  • They shouldn't be calling you for anything other than sickness or an injury or it's a recurrent issue that has already been discussed and you knew if it happened again he'd be going home. All it does is stress you out and make it hard for you to do your job. It's their JOB to handle grumpy kids.
  • You're paying them for this.  Don't pick him up.  They should be trying different discipline approaches and he's only 1.5.

My daycare lady tells me he had a bad day or sometimes texts me about it and I always think to myself, "What do you want me to do about it over here?".

  • Ok thanks ladies. It was annoying me, but I also didn't want to be that parent who thought it was a non issue when it is something that others would pick up their kids for. And many of you are right... now I am only thinking "what's he doing now?". Hopefully he takes a long nap and is in a better mood this afternoon!
  • If the behavior is extremely out of the ordinary and they have already tried all of the tricks in their bag and taken his temperature, I can see them calling to give you a heads up.  I would probably still be a bit annoyed if it seemed like they were fishing for me to come pick him up and would prefer that they directly ask me to come pick him up.  I think the only time my daycare calls is if DS1 is sick and I think they called when he got bit hard enough to break the skin.  Other than that they wait to let me know how his day went when I go and pick him up.
  • He was just at the doc Monday for a check up and everything was fine. I don't think he is teething right now, but they have orajel for him. IDK maybe he is just having a bad day... I'm glad work doesn't call my mother every time I come in and act like a bitch! LOL
