First World Coveniences

Last night as I was prepping the coffee pot, I thought about how important my self-timer coffe pot is to me. I can't imagine not waking up to a hot pot of coffee. My FWP is when DH sets it for too late. If I come down and have to start it, wasting precious minutes of kid-free coffee enjoyment time, I want to smash things.

What's your totally first world convenience that you couldn't live without?

I didn't have a TV with a remote in my bedroom until college.  I used to position the TV close enough to my bed so that I could change the channel with my big toe.

Totally with you on the coffee timer and the DVR. 

People keep trying to convince me to get a Keurig, I don't want to wait even a minute for coffee when I wake up.

@helenahhandbasket, a good friend of mine married a man from Somalia. He's hilarious and says camping is the ultimate "first world activity". He said people in Africa make fun of us because we live in these giant houses (his words) with every amenity possible and we think it's fun to go sleep in the woods with nothing.

When you think about it, he's right....

I start the coffee when I get up and while I'm waiting I feed the dog, let him outside, have a pee, etc. so I'm not wasting time standing around watching it. 

What I would like but don't have is a remote for for the ceiling fan/light in my bedroom.

That's the worst... you get in bed to read or watch tv or whatever, then you get all cozy and comfy and end up being tired...that stupid fucking light is on and now you have to get OUT of bed just to turn the light off.  Lazy person problems!

I didn't know it could be programmed! I still like my whole pot of regular coffee though.

Oh I can't stand when there's no ceiling light and you have to use a floor lamp, which means there's no light switch and of course the lamp is always on the other side of the room.

All of it. As nostalgic as I am for the 80's, I wouln't want to go back there and live before cell phones, GPS and DVR.

I remember the days before remotes were standard equipment; it actually worked out okay for the grownups, because the kids were forced to be channel changers/volume adjusters.  Now get off my lawn, whippersnappers!

I love wireless internet and am way too dependent on it.
