Travel (hotel) tips?

We're going to Disneyland over Thanksgiving, and it will be our first time staying in a hotel since DS outgrew a PnP. I'm pretty sure he's physically too long for it.

DH booked a room with a king size bed...and maybe a sleeper sofa. It's a suite, but that means different things at different hotels.

DS has never slept in a regular bed, nor have we ever attempted it. We have never coslept either. We'll also have DD, and she will be in a PnP.

So what would you do? We could get a rollaway bed, but I'd be afraid he would fall off since he moves a lot in his sleep. I'm pretty sure we'll have a sleeper sofa, and I'd be less nervous about that since it would be wider...

Tips? Suggestions?

  • The first time we traveled and had DD out of a crib or our bed, we put a mattress on the floor.  If you're worried about him falling, maybe you could put the sleeper sofa mattress on the floor in a corner?  Set him up with his own little sleep area?

Does he sleep with any toys or stuffed animals or special blanket at home?  Bring them along, it will help him get settled in to sleep in a new place.

  • I would do mattress on the floor, too. Good luck!

  • Absolutely bring bedtime lovies & books with and don't be surprised or get frustrated when he doesn't magically fall asleep in the new place. If you're all stuck in the same room, you may end up laying in the dark. Any time we've slept in a hotel, I have ended up bringing DD into bed with me at some point.
We're used to lying in the dark in hotels and have had to do that many times...but only with DS. This will be our first time in a hotel with both kids. It will be interesting to do it with both kids - I'm thinking that I'll leave DH to deal with DS while I walk around with DD in the Ergo or something if he's being loud.

  • Oh, we have stayed in hotels. Liam is a nightmare in a hotel room. The only thing that works is making sure he's so worn out he can't be awake another second. I wish I had more advice for you.
