Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

(Lack of) Eating

LO is 16 months. For the most part he was eating fantastic until this last week. We don't really know the reason, but it could either be ear infection, allergies, general weirdness. This is how he eats now: He usually eats breakfast just fine. We recently decreased his daily milk intake. Lunch and dinner are the problem. Now all he does is take a few bites, and stop eating. I think that he is still hungry, just super finicky. If we put cheese, fruit, or junk food in front of him, he would keep going. Do we let him 'starve', or give him the same unhealthy mix? Should we be concerned with him losing weight? Is it a control issue?

Re: (Lack of) Eating

  • She has always eaten what we eat... that being said I always make sure there is at least one thing I know she will eat. For us she LOVES veggies, cheese, pasta. So I always make sure we have at least one of those things. She doesn't really like meat that much, maybe chicken. I always offer it to her and show her we are eating to see if she will at least try it. I dont want to create a habit where I make her a separate meal but at the same time she is 15 months so she isn't going to like fish the way that we do right now!

  • Thanks!

By junk, I more meant he wants snacky foods like cheerios and puffs. We don't feed him actual junk food but don't want him to think it is ok to skip a meal and just eat snack foods.
