Babies on the Brain

Am I pregnant already?!?!?

I've been on the pill for 15 years straight and finally got off now that my DH and I wanted to start ttc. My last month on the pill was august.... On the pill, my period would faithfully come at the exact same time every month....the 28th day. My first month off the pill (September), it came a day early...the 27th day. Now this month, I am on day 30 and no period!!! It's killing me! I took a test Monday morning (day 29) and it came up negative. My DH says we are in 'no mans land' until we take another test in a few days, or my monthly bills finally makes an appearance! Haha. No symptoms really, except for my usual 'period' ones....craving sweet sand salt, and some crabbiness. I thought I felt kind of nauseous and anxious over the weekend, but may have been my mind plaing tricks on me. My period was very very regular before I was 18 and got on the pill. My gyno said it should return to that pattern. Is my body just adjusting to being off, and it may take a few months to get back on schedule? Oh....we did count my days last month (September) and had sex on day 11, 13, and 15. Figured I should mention that!!! Lol. Any comments would be appreciated! I just want to know one way or the other!!!

You cannot use the cycles you had while on BC. Your cycles were 28 days because of the pill. If you think you are pregnant, why not just take a test? No one on the Internet can tell you if you are pregnant.

ETA: Just realized you already took a test yesterday. It was negative, so no, you',re not pregnant right now. Your body can take time to adjust after coming off of the pill. For some it happens right away and for others it can months.

If the test was negative then no, you aren't pregnant. Relax - you're on day 30. And the reason your period was like clockwork on BC is because hormones were regulating your cycles. My second cycle off BC was 37 days. And I felt like shit. And I wasn't pregnant.

    This is normal.

ETA you should consider charting your BBT in order to pinpoint when you ovulate/when you're in your fertile window.

  • I also just went off the pill and my first cycle off was 35 days.  Takes a while to adjust!
  • Thank you all for your comments!!! I've read quite a few articles stating that it may not always show up on a test...for a while! I forgot to mention that I used the OPK's! I was definitely ovulating when we had sex according to the sticks. My good friend used them also and got pregnant her second month. Sorry, I am just excited....not getting any younger :)
  • Opks aren't the best option for determine ovulation. You can gear up to O, resulting in a positive, but not actually O. Temping is the only way to confirm ovulation.

There are articles in the internet that say women have their periods while pregnant too and that's blatantly inaccurate. So the crap about not being able to turn tests is just that - crap! My understanding is there is a very small percentage of women who can't turn tests but the vast majority do. In general, hpts are accurate.

Despite what you learned in 8th grade health class, it's not that easy to get pregnant. You have a 20% chance each cycle. So relax, educate yourself, and enjoy the process as much as possible.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Yea, I have a masters degree in health sciences and have been in medical sales for 10 years in one of the largest cities in the nation. I better educate myself. I may not have stated every single solitary fact that I know and have learned while 'educating' myself on pregnancy. No shit you have 20% chance...it's pregnancy 101. Other than well documented articles, quite a few boards on here have comments from woman that have had negative tests and they turn up pregnant. That's what this blogging is for right? Ive been with my husband for 10 years, I am 33, and we've discussed getting off the pill for over a year. I've done a lot of research and have read everything possible on pregnancy. It's called being excited! Not one person on here said, ''yes! You could be! But your cycle may also take a while to regulate itself back now off the pill." That's all I was looking for but obviously people are immature. I will stick to talking to my do it rather than this waste of time...
  • It sounds to me like you need to just get a life! Haha
  • It sounds to me like you need to just get a life! Haha

    What the.....?

I don't even know where you're coming from in all this, but if you want baby dust and rainbows blown up your ass then this isn't the site for you. You asked a simple question with a simple answer, but you wanted it sugar coated. Sorry, but that's not what we do here.
  • Where did you get this masters degree and how could you possibly have read everything there is to read about pregnancy online and still not know that just counting the number of days in your cycle would not be the best way to know if/when you ovulate and when to test? You need to chart basal body temp and one other indicator like cervical mucous or opks to be accurate.

People gave you good advice and you acted like a jerk because it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Own up to it, and take the advice of learning more about your reproductive life. Fertilityfriend.com is good as is the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

And zoinks! You aren't pregnant! The test was negative! Maybe you just need exclamation points to get the point across!
  • Um, your original post makes you sound like you don't know very much about TTC, which is fine, we all start somewhere but don't get all pissy when people give you accurate information and correct you where you are wrong. You did say "Any comments would be appreciated!" What you meant to say was "Any comments in which you all lie to me and tell me I'm preggars are welcome!" And yet. and yet we're the immature ones. Why on earth would you assume we Internet strangers would give you better info about the status of your uterus than a hpt? But you didn't actually want the truth anyway, so...yeah...

  • These ladies gave great advice. I thought I was pregnant my first cycle off bcp and we were TTA at the time. That first cycle off bcp can do some funny things to your head. Thanks to advice I got here, I knew what to expect. Good luck to you.

Your gyno lied. I had 30 day cycles that never deviated from the month I got my period at 11 until I was 22 and went on birth control. On birth control I had 28 day cycles. My first cycle off birth control I had a 28 day cycle. The second one was 50 days. The third one I conceived--I temped and ovulated on cd30 and got a bfp on cd45. Your cycle length can change at anytime and it is much more likely to change after coming off birth control.

  • Ugh...I was actually going to post something along the lines of what you said you wanted, but after reading your bitchy responses to very helpful posts, I think I'm going to just say "you're not pregnant. end of story".
