High-Risk Pregnancy

Heavy bleeding

Last night I had to go to the hospital because I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and there was blood covering my underwear and pants and more came out in the toilet. I got to the ER, they saw the baby and the heartbeat which made me feel a little better but I don't see my doctor and I'm still scared. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sorry you went through this, When it happen to me I was 16wks was diagnosed with SCH.  Currently 36wks :0)

  • What is SCH?
  • Blood clot.. It's very common. I don't have any clotting issues but it sometimes happens depending on the egg implanted or due to placenta. Some SCH are serve where woman need to be closely monitored or bedrest, other times like mine they aren't so big and either your body desolves it or passes it.

When I bled I ended up in the ER. They did a u/s everything was good. Two days later I saw my dr she told me I had a clot that was sitting on my near my cervix and i would continue to bleed. Few days later I pasted a plum size clot. Since then I was fine. I had occasional brown blood but nothing alarming.

    SCH: Subchoroinc Hematoma

Another reason someone can bleed which also happen to me with my last pregnancy was a low laying placenta.
Any form of bleeding isn't normal BUT doesn't mean it's bad. Some woman bleed their whole pregnancy and go ahead and have a healthy baby. I bleed from 16-23wks I bleed heavy 16wks and 17wks the rest was spotting..
  • I'm seeing my dr Thursday and they're gonna do an ultrasound. They've been monitoring me because I have a bleed on my cervix and my placenta is low. I'm 13 weeks with my second and it hasn't been an easy one. I'm trying my best to not stress but it's def hard.
  • Oh stress over it. Your placenta must be laying low. If it is its totally normal and eventually moves up.. Do pelvic rest from here until you see your dr. (No sex)
  • I've been on pelvic rest for the past 6 weeks
  • This same exact situation happened to me only it was in the evening. I had cramping (similar to period cramps) first and about an hour later began bleeding. I was admitsd to the hospital and diagnosed with a partially abrupted placenta. The bleeding stopped and I was released home on 100% bed rest. I was 32 weeks when that happened and am 34 weeks tomorrow. Were you cramping before you began bleeding? Are you still in the hospital?

  • I was not cramping at all. They released me after the ER doctor talked to my OB doctor. My OB said I could be discharged because the blood work was good and the ultrasound showed the baby was ok and had a heartbeat so I have to wait until Thursday to see my OB and ill have another ultrasound, they will probably do a transvaginal one.
  • Well I would for sure take it easy. Has the bleeding stopped completely? If it hasn't I hope it does soon!

  • It did stop but now I just went to the bathroom and there was blood when I wiped
  • I had that and was admitted to L & D for mag and steroid shots at 25w.  I was also showing some contractions on the screen that I wasn't feeling.  I would suggest keeping an eye on it and calling if you notice anything funky.  Good Luck!

  • No cramps? The blood is brown or bright red? I honestly think it is probably just SCH or low laying placenta. Those bleeds come with no cramps.. Def like rkcaraway said monitor it. If its brown its old blood if its bright red call dr. Only thing that sucks is your very early so they wouldn't admit if needed. You have to be 20wks or over to be seen in L&D . They would tell you, wait and see what happens, that they can't help save the pregnancy if its something with baby.. Which I doubt..
  • Well thought everything was ok but I am having more bleeding this time with a clot, called the dr said to use a pad and he'll see me in the morning, he said not having cramping is a good thing but I'm scared I might be losing the baby
  • I had heavy bright red bleeding.  Went in for u/s and baby was fine.  Stopped after a couple days then started again.  Saw my OB again and once again baby was fine.  I even passed some clots and at one point small tissue looking clots.  I have fibroid tumors which the doctor thinks is causing my issues.   I am now 15 weeks and all is looking good.  I cut work back to working half days and since then the bleeding has not returned.  I wish you lots of luck.  There are many things that can cause bleeding during pregnancy and there are many of them that are not a danger to the baby.

  • I was just at my OB this morning and baby is doing fine, growing on track and great heartbeat. My placenta is laying low and as it's moving its causing the bleeding I'm having so right now I'm on bed rest for the next 2-4 weeks
  • Yes this happened to me at 13 weeks.  I had a low lying placenta with a SCH that wasn't there a week before on ultrasound.  I'm now almost 37 weeks pregnant!  Try not to worry too much although I know it is easier said than done.
