Winter coat!

I'm probably totally over thinking this partially due to sleep deprivation lol but my 2 yr old needs a wimter coat. I looooove the gap puffer coat but it seems so bulky. I also love the northface reversible moondoggy coat . Anyone have any experience with either of these jackets? We are in mi so he will wear it for, nov to April amd I now have a newborn who will likely wear it again I'm two years..

I like the 3-in-1 coat from Children's Place. You can unzip the outer shell so it is just the fleece jacket (for in the car seat) and then put the outer layer on when they're outside.

We do the 3-in-1 coats. They wear the fleece in the car seat and for just going to and from the car, but we add the outer shell if they'll be outside more than a few minutes (playing in the snow and such).

thanks guys..the north face one is very similar to the patagonia one, i think i will go with that one.. i thought the gap one would be to puffy

We have a North Face reversible fleece hooded jacket. It's thin enough to wear in the carseat but it is cozy and warm. We're in Oregon, though. It doesn't usually dip below freezing.

I like the ski type coats that aren't as bulky. We have had Columbia coats the past couple years and they have been fantastic and warm.

We love the Lands End squall coats.  Perfect for our winter and not bulky at all!

I wouldn't use either of the coats you mentioned in a car seat. Anything that has down, or fake down will compress upon impact. Plus i am highly allergic to feathers. I have a few denali jackets from north face and the issue with those is there is no wind protection but they are warm.
I love the LL Bean ones for my LO!!! I've bought them from clearance the season before winter so they aren't that expensive, around $30 in the spring. I've seen them at consignment sales and have a few hand-me-down ones too. Love the grow cuff sleeve option. LO's gone out in zero degree weather and we've never had an issue with the jacket. If there was a weather delay in the school district like when it is -10 below, i waited until the sun was out and warmed up the ambient air before we left the house. I also when to BBB and bought leg warmers for her legs, easy to get on/off with out putting on another pair of pants(or more bulk in a cars eat), plus they are easy to cover the gap between the shoe/sock/pant area when LO moves.

We have big puffer coats and snowpants for playing outside. I've bought them from Oshkosh and Lands End in the past. For the car, DD2 has a carseat poncho.
