  • I'll always trust Parenting's opinion on movies. Always.

I was Meh on it.  Felt like I had been there, done that.  I mean, I haven't ever seen this EXACT plot before, but all of the elements of it were familiar and didn't feel fresh.  I could probably have saved that for a UO thread...  I've also never made it past the first 100 pages of Game of Thrones.  This despite being a HUGE sci fi/fantasy fan.
    You're broken.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK.  Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.

  • Watch it!! You will thank us later.
  • I really liked the movie.  The book was 475% better, but that's almost always the case.

  • It's entertaining and very well shot. I don't want to spoil anything, but I'll say it follows certain YA conventions that make it less enjoyable in some ways than it might have been for me. But for free? Yeah, watch it.

  • It's great!

I do think the book was better but I think they did a really good job making it into a movie. I can't wait for the next one!

  • Do it !!  Loved the movie and the book.  I agree with PP that the book was way better, but the characters are portrayed really well in the movie.  I feel like they left a few things out in the movie that if you hadn't read the books you would not understand the significance.

Um...no. Please explain what you DO like since GoT is mind blowing amazing.

I thought HG was okay. Special effects were cheesy in some parts, really turned me off.

Agreed.  There was a guy with his wife/girlfriend behind us in the theater and he kept whispering questions to her.  Eventually she got fed up and angry-whispered, "I told you to read the damn books!"

  • Funny story. I drag DH to movies occasionally. Really only movies made from books I love like Harry Potter so he doesn't suffer too much. Even though he doesn't want to go, he doesn't want to know he end (he HATES spoilers)

We went to see HG with my two best friends and we are waiting for the movie to start and this gaggle of teen girls comes out of a showing and they're talking about the movie. They start to spoil and DH says "Hey! We can hear you and we haven't seen it! Go talk outside and quit spoiling!" I'm surprised the dad with them didn't say anything, he looked like a weirdo.

  • I wouldn't be a fan of OSC.  Ender's Game was badass but the man himself is a fucking tool.

  • What the hell, the little girl is dead. That's sum bullshit right there.
  • I never knew what was so special about JL, but I get it now. Oh I get it.
  • I didn't read the other responses, but I thought both the book and the movie were meh.

I read the first book while I was on maternity leave and I had to force myself to finish.

H didn't read the book but loved the movie.
