Next time they want to shove their noses where they don't belong, just tell them that you needed it to wash down the sushi and deli meats you just ate for lunch, plus it makes the best chaser for the vodka shots you're doing. Then roll your eyes and tell them to collectively go fuck themselves and mind their business.
On a personal note, I tend to avoid artificial sweeteners because they aggravate my Tourettes tics, plus I'm just not a big soda drinker in general. But if I want a Coke sometimes, dammit I'm gonna have one! But if you don't have this condition, I don't see why you can't enjoy a diet coke every now and again if your OB says it's ok.
Diet is always bad because of the artificial sweeteners. I'd do regular if you do any soda. Up to 200mg of caffeine is ok, I do one coffee and one or two iced tea's depending on the day.

I have only recently gotten over my first trimester aversion to soda/tea of any kind! My newest beverage addiction is orange juice! And those Starbucks refreshers in the can! I did have a diet coke the other day and loved every sip! I usually buy this weird all natural diet soda with stevia because the artificial sweeteners mess with my gi system. Sad but there are artificial sweeteners in tons of stuff! They use it a lot in low fat dairy too! Once I figured out that the artificial sweetener was exasperated my UC/Crohns symptoms I had to change a lot of food I bought!
