s/o massages

I've expressed here I completed massage therapy training.  It's been several years now, and I never took my boards for full LMT.   It bothers me I've never completed it, but that's kind of my thing.  I start stuff and don't finish.   I'm debating whether I should go for it again and complete my training, but I'm worried the cost to benefit ratio is low considering my location.  We don't exactly have the money for me to fuck this up, so I need a little push either direction.

  • If you can get in the right location it's worth it.

I got my license as the economy was crashing and ended up letting it lapse once I got pregnant

But if you can find somewhere to work where you know it will be steady go for it

  • Unfortunately, moving elsewhere is not an option.  I do know I can bring on a few local clients, but I don't think I could make a living full time outside of the home.

I would likely have to take a few CEU hours and definitely brush up on some old stuff.  There is a somewhat local Massage school, but then child care is also an issue.

  • I'm not sure @mrsell.  It depends on how much further education I need.  The cost of testing was well over $300 last I checked.  I used to attempt calling the person in charge of licensing in this state, but she never answered her calls or returned them.

  • If you do not think the income you would receive from being a practicing LMT would outweigh the costs of finishing your licensing then I would probably wait until child care would not be a factor.

  • Fucking small towns make things so much more complicated.

Maybe you should offer some massages at the gtg to raise money for massage school.

Would it be worth persuing when N goes to school so child care isn't an issue?

Or could you look for somewhere that you could work evenings and weekends?

ETA: I think if you really want to do this, you should. It sounds like it would mean a lot to you.

  • You and your SO will have to run the cost-benefit yourself. Career investment decisions are tricky because for them to be worth it you kind of have to commit to a certain number of years of doing the work.

  • I'm going to look into the cost locally.

There are very few things I'm actually good at and massage is one of them.  I feel I'm wasting the time I spent learning the skill.  Although, I'm sure DH is not complaining too much receiving a massage here and there.
