Schedule and EBF twins

Anyone successfully on a schedule with ebf and does it help. I am getting no sleep and everyone is telling me to either put then on a schedule or pump and feed to make sure they r getting enough. I know they r getting enough cuz they r growing well and I have loads of milk. They are 7.5 weeks. Help! This mama needs sleep!!

Re: Schedule and EBF twins

  • I didn't EBF, but followed The Contented House w/ Twins by Gina Ford which encourages a schedule for EBF twins.  She is the go to chid expert in Britain.  Good luck!

  • We EBF (I'm back at work, so they get 3 BM bottles/day, we EBF when were together) and have naturally fallen into a schedule just within the last couple weeks - they're almost 4 mo.

We do one up, both up and I tandem bf. That has helped cut down on the time spent feeding, but it's still absolutely exhausting. There was a point around 6-8w that was absolutely brutal. They really started to turn a corner around 3mo with smiling and being interactive and having legit happy awake time.

I also log all of their feedings so that I can look for patterns for when they are most likely to eat. Once they started sleeping in bigger chunks (4ish hours), a pattern/routine really started to emerge. I didn't force anything and always follow their cues, but they've fallen into a schedule/routine, but really only within the past couple weeks.

Hang in there. It's really so so hard. But it will get better.

  • At 7.5 weeks, there isn't much you can do other than 1 up, both up. Hope you get some sleep soon!

  • I always had pumped and gave them some more from a bottle (and then froze the rest) at that time after the breast, otherwise they'd be hungry again in 15-20 mins. Thinking back, the time from pumping probably equaled out to what it would have take if they were on the boob so often, but I needed it for my "sanity" and someone else could help with feedings when available. I remember the exhaustion - I'm sorry. As everyone says, it does get better.

  • We were on an awesome schedule to begin with. They tandem nursed every 3 hours. At night if one woke I'd wake the other to nurse. At about 6 months I'd just take the one that woke and lay in bed and nurse them and we'd usually both fall back asleep. If the other baby woke I'd switch them out. We stopped nursing at night at 1 yr and they sttn. At 13 months they were drinking from a sippy cup during the day so we nursed on demand at that point and they self weened at 16 months.
