    My last 5 books/series:

    1)  Outlander Series - Diana Gabaldon

    2)  Dark Places - Gillian Flynn

    3)  Chocolate Lover's Series - Tara Sivec

    4)  Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet - Jamie Ford

    5) The Peach Keeper - Sarah Addison Allen

I highly recommend the outlander series and anything by Sarah Addison Allen.  Even my #4 was really good.  The others, I didn't really care for.

I loved your # 4, too! Great story!
  • I'm slogging my way through 14(!!) Wizard of Oz books. I'm on like book 10, not because they are any good after the 2nd book but out of tenacity. I'm also reading "marketing strategies for higher education" snore.
  • @AcaAckward I love Jodi Picoult! I've read all of her books, no lie.
My most recent 5 reads are:
    1. Calling Me Home - Julie Kibler, yes I would recommend. Good story, great characters
    2. Live Wire - Harlan Coben, if you like mystery type books, I'd recommend. I really like his character, Myron Bolitar, but this was not my favorite of his books
    3. Where'd You Go Bernadette? - Maria Semple, this was a really fun read. It's got a different style than most of the books I read, but it was enjoyable for sure.
    4. The Storyteller - Jodi Picoult, so good! I love her, as I said above. This story is about a woman of Jewish heritage and an older German man she befriends who she then discovers is a former nazi.
    5. And the Mountains Echoed - Khaled Hosseini, also a very good one. Different from his prior 2 novels (the kite runner, a thousand splendid suns) but good. All of his books are worth reading!

    I love this discussion!

  • @Leticiasmugala I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! I think it was the first pick I made for my book club years ago! I have read several of the books you ladies have mentioned, and I've gotten some great ideas for ones to add to my reading list. Thanks!

  • I am currently reading Blue Nights by Joan Didion. I worship her, but I'm just too hormonal and may have to put it down. Too sad.

Just finished The Physics of Imaginary Objects by Tina May Hall. Short stories. Highly recommend.

Birds of America by Lorrie Moore. Short stories centering around quirky, somewhat awkward young women. Loved it to pieces. I think if you like Bridget Jones, you may like Lorrie Moore.

Laura Lamont's Life in Pictures by Emma Straub. I literally sobbed when I finished this book. I was down in the dumps to let it go.

  • Ooopsbaby14 I've been thinking about The Night Circus! Did you like it? I've picked it up and put it down again a few times. Should I read it?

I liked The Night Circus. It was a bit strange, but kind of endearing. I didn't love it, but I'd say it was a pretty good book

  • Currently reading Baby wise: very informative
Simply irresistible by Jill Shalvis: annoying, hard to finish
Where we belong by Emily Giffin: didn't care for the too tidy ending
The touch of fire by Linda Howard: good old romantic escapism
Pines by Blake Crouch: scared the heck outa me!

  • @AcaAwkward You are so funny! I read a lot of YA Fiction, actually, when I need a mental break, or have read too much non-fiction in a row.

I love YA! I think it's easier to come up with interesting plots if the page count can be shorter and the reading level lighter.

I think I just tend to expect too much of the writing when people are raaaaaaaaving about certain YA books.

    I'm getting ideas!

    - under the dome- stephen king , easy and exciting read

    - 1Q84- fantasy, film noir type romance, really good but long as hell

    - Life of pie- loved it

    - Quiet, about the power of introverts

    - Edgar Cayce: An American prophet, biograpgical account of the amazing life of the past life reader

Murakami is one of my favorite authors!!! 1Q84 was great, not my favorite but really enjoyable.

Re-reading Life of Pi is also on my post grad school list.
  • I loved The Night Circus, but I like a little gothic in my novels.
