High-Risk Pregnancy

Overweight and pregnant come on in....

I weighed my self this morning and at 31 weeks I'm up 20 pounds, I have no GD and baby is ahead 2 weeks, I'm really scared that I will weigh too much and harm the baby. Any other plus size mommy's who have gained the recommended amount of weight for a pregnancy that started out with normal BMI.

  • I am over weight. Altho i havent gained too much due to being on bedrest but dont really think you can harm the baby if you gain weight. 20 pounds in 31 wks doesnt seem so bad.. If your dr isnt concern dont worry. Try to eliminate carbs if your very worried.. Due to my weight i had to take the glucose test 4times. I dont have GD.

I lost 15 on bedrest by 27wks i gained that back I am now 35wks and have gain 10 pounds. The 3rd tri is when you gain the most weight. I am expecting to gain another 5 then i will tape my mouth :0) My baby is already 6 pounds dr is prodicting a 8pounder So if we add the 15 i loss plus the 10 i am over thats 25.. :0)

  • You have your mfm that would say something about your weight then you have your mfm that wont. I am sure your mfm meant hurt your baby by increasing your chances of GD or pre-E.. That i am sure you are aware of. The heavier you are the higher chance you have to get that but doesnt mean you will.. I didnt get it and i am about to pop soon..
  • I'm almost 32 weeks and I have gd this time around, but not with my first. I'm on a nutrition plan and I check my glucose four times a day. I gained 8 lbs, then lost 2 in the last two weeks , I guess because of the nutrition plan I was put on. At your next visit ask your dr about your weight, and if either of you are concerned, consider seeing your hospital's nutritionist, or one he recommends. Even without gd, I would go see one, because they can really help you make better choices and give you a new outlook on Carbs. From what I hear, many women gain 20-50lbs a pregnancy anyway, so as long as everything else is ok, I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck:)
  • I agree with the above posters. I was in the middle of losing weight and I am a diabetic when I got pregnant. My doctors watched my weight very carefully for both of those reasons. I am sure your doctor(s) would have and/or will say something about the weight.
