f*ck

Help guys!

My 3yo heard DH say "f*ck" the other day in the car, and now he won't stop saying it. He uses it in perfect context, and with perfect annunciation. For example, we were at the pediatrician's office yesterday, and he fell off his chair and said, "fuck, I fell down". I thought the doctor was going to die. It is so embarrassing.

I've had DH apologize to DS and say, it was wrong of daddy to say, it is a very bad word. I've tried ignoring it, putting him in time out. Now, the latest is we were at Target, and he was walking around saying, "we don't say fuck, fuck is a bad word".

Re: f*ck

  • Omg! Totally ignore it. If you talk about it at all you are going to give it power. You are probably going to have a few embarrassing situations in the meantime, but eventually he will get over it

  • My step son went through this phase when he was 3. It last a month or 2. We tried to ignore it most of the time. It is embarrassing!

  • You have to ignore it. My 5 yo is the queen of potty mouth. Parenting fail on my part. Luckily she only does it at home.
Wait until the really embarrassing things come out.
One time we were walking through a parking lot and DD1 saw a mom and daughter. The mom was darker skinned and the daughter was light skinned. She asked me very loudly, why doesn't the daughter look like the mom they are different colors? I don't think they heard her though thank goodness.

  • I don't have any suggestions although I read this to my dh, and you had us both cracking up.  Thank you!
