HR location

Just curious about this, but where is your HR department physically located?

My company is acquiring a new floor in our building, so there is going to be a lot of shifting of seats throughout the building. Our 2-person HR department is currently located in a relatively low traffic area, with each member in an office with a door, but will be moving to a highly visible location on the main floor, and one will be located in a cube. I just find this odd. When I was pregnant, I talked with HR before letting my manager know, and he happened to walk by when I was in one of the offices, and I know he questioned it before I told him a few days later. I just think that for the sake of confidentiality, having HR in a public area, especially having one of them in a CUBE without even the guise of privacy is just odd, but maybe this is normal.

Re: HR location

  • The area that they're in doesn't have any conference rooms, they'd have to go to another floor to do so. And while you would assume they would have utilize common sense, the woman they're putting in the cube actually has some of the loosest lips I've ever met, so I'm not sure about her judgment.

  • In my company...we are in a relatively high traffic area two of us are in cubes (HR generalists), payroll & benefit specialist is in an office that has some privacy while the HR manager is in an office that, besides the door, does not afford much privacy.  Most employee mattes she will handle in her office...anything of a more confidential neighbor usually will also involve one of her higher ups, so the meetings will be held in their larger, but more private offices.
