WWYD

SS really wants to go to school today.

He had a fever yesterday when he got home (101.2) and it's 100.1 this morning. He says he doesn't feel sick but he's tired.

Me, DH, ds1 and ds2 have all been sick all week.

Would you send him? My gut says no bit his mom just offered to go get him at school of he wants to leave early.

Re: WWYD

  • I would keep him home.  It sounds like he's still fighting something since his temp is still slightly elevated.  Our school policy is a full 24 hours without a fever so since he had one yesterday when he got home I would keep him home today.

  • I wouldn't.

  • I would keep him home
  • I wouldn't no matter how tempting it is. I would feel too guilty if others got sick.

I sent DD1 to in home daycare last week with loose stool because she was fine and we and another kiddo got the stomach flu. Turns out DH brought the bug home and DD was just showing mild symptoms at the time.

  • I would keep him home. It sounds like he is getting whatever is floating around your house. Let him stay home and rest.

  • I'm going to play devil's advocate and say it depends how old he is, what he's sick with and what he's missing at school.

A high schooler with a bad cold and a big test he doesn't want to make-up? He can make that call for himself. Adults suck it up and go to work sick all the time. Welcome to the real world.

A kindergartener with the flu? Back in bed, kid.

  • His school does have a fever policy but, like our daycare, it's 101.5 as the cutoff.

Technically I could send him but one of his teachers is pregnant so I'm not doing it.

  • A fever is a fever, which means he's still contagious. Good idea to keep him home.

  • If it was an isolated fever, I'd dose him with Motrin and send him. I did that a few weeks ago with DS but his was only 99.5 and we were all well.

With everyone being sick....yea, I'd keep him home. Good call.

  • If he still has fever he should stay home.
