Baby Names

Ok one more question...

Scratch Maisie. Too cutesy and I am just. Not feeling it, or is DH. We are narrowed down to Charlotte or Genevieve... Here's my hesitation. When I hear Genevieve, I kinda think of a cafeteria lady. Charlotte I see more like a teacher or even a doctor or something equally as professional/successful... Convince me I am crazy?

I don't know what cafeteria you eat in! All the "lunch ladies" I remember were Judy, Kathy, etc. (not that those are bad names).

    Genevieve is a beautiful name.

    Crazy. :P
In high school I had a Geneva as a lunch lady... I think she is ruining it I for me a little but fear not name junkies... I am seeing the light slowly but surely. ;)

haha you're crazy. No everyone pictures something different. A Charlotte I picture as spunkier than a Genevieve who I picture more subdued. If that makes any sense :)

I like both but Genevieve gets my vote :)

  • I mean, skipping my whole rant on why we really don't need to freak out about "resume names" anyway (in the words of Liz Lemon, "It's endless. You'll beg for death."), both names are equally charming, feminine and pronounce-able (unless you live somewhere with a sizable French population; then Genevieve might encounter some differences in pronunciation). As a total aside, I always LOL at the "sounds like a doctor" idea. When I worked at a hospital, like 50% or more of the doctors had very challenging ethnic names. If I had to pick a name that "sounded like a doctor," it'd be something like Ali or Bilal, not any Whitey McWhite name.

  • I don't really have any association with Genevieve, sounds like a solid choice to me

Now with Charlotte I have two associations, never having personally known one. The first, Sex In The City. The second, the city. Beautiful city. NMS to use the name on my daughter. But everyone on this board loves it, so I'm in the minority!

  • You Are Crazy!  haha  Neither is "lunch lady" to me     I agree with Scarlett about the  Dr. scenario too--  that always makes me smile when people say that.  Most of the Dr.'s I have been to have crazy unpronounceable names and one even had first name - wait for it-  Traycee!

Both are lovely-  why not wait and see if one seems to suit her more?

  • Love both names... you can't go wrong!

I get what you are saying. It when one hears some names they instantly remind you of something... For me, I hear Charity or Destiny and I just think "stripper." When I hear Genevieve, part of me thinks "cafeteria lady." I am just trying to work past that and explain why I thus tend to give Charlotte more favor... I don't have an instant connotation for Charlotte thus I can imagine her being almost anything. All of this.

    And, I LOVE Genevieve!
