Dairy free

Little girl has been fussy during feedings so I'm going dairy free as well as trying to eat as bland as possible. Anyone else do this? I've already stopped coffee, dairy, and beans for about a week now. She still gets fussy sometimes during feedings. What did you find to be most helpful?

Re: Dairy free

  • I am on day 5 of no dairy. It sucks, but of course I'll do what I need to to ease the fussiness. My DS shows signs of colic so I'm hoping cutting out dairy does the trick. I'm also avoiding spicy foods, or anything that may be overbearing to him.
Dr also recommended to me to avoid foods that used to give me heartburn when I was pregnant...so no pizza or redvines for me! haha

  • We've done Colief, it helps break down the lactose in the milk. BF or FF. It's helped a lot.
  • I've been off dairy for three weeks and not sure I see any difference. We just started reflux meds.

  • No dairy for 4 weeks  - but I screwed up 3 days ago and DS spent 2 days screaming, puking, and having diarrhea.  Not fun.  Today he's doing a little better.  Only one small puke so far.  Cows milk allergy runs in my family so it was a pretty obvious thing to try when he became colicky and it has made a huge difference.  I really miss yogurt.

The biggest problem I have is he immediately throws up every formula - even hyperallergenic ones - we've tried.  I really need to find a formula he can take because with my job I could be sent away on short notice and I don't have a big enough stash of BM to sustain him.
  • We are on our 3rd week being dairy free. It takes about two weeks to get out of your system/breastmilk, and another 1-2 weeks to get out of the babies system. Just two days ago his poop finally started being yellow again, so I know it's working. For the past 4 weeks it had been green and mucousy. Just know that you can still eat oreos :) They also have some brownie mixes at the grocery store that do not contain milk products, so read the ingredients list.

Have you tried elecare? It's expensive but it works better than the other hypo ones. @carnation77
  • I've been dairy free for 2 months now, it's hard but not only does he not vomit everywhere I don't feel as bloated. Oh and I love the diya cheese it's good on pizza!
  • Day 4 of it and still no difference. I actually stopped his reflux meds today bc I have linked some of the more intense screaming happening after I give him the meds. :/
    Hoping something helps!
  • Beachmama - I haven't tried Elecare yet.  He has his 2 month appt next week and I'm going to discuss it with his pediatrician.   I wanted to see if Tricare will pay for a more specialized formula like that or if I have to foot the bill.

It takes about 3 weeks for the milk protein to leave your system.
