I'm looking to get a new thermometer (right now we only have a rectal one) and am deciding between the Exergen Temporal Artery thermometer or one that goes in the ear.  I've read mix reviews on both.  What do you use?  Do you like it? TIA!

I actually still use my ancillary thermometer.  I have Safety First ear thermometer and while it's good for a quick reading in like 1 second, it isn't accurate.  I could take LO's temp multiple times in a row and get readings all over the board.  My ancillary/rectal thermometer is a cheapy one from BRU and works just fine.

Our Vicks one broke (the one that can be both rectal and under arm), so I bought one from the drugstore that goes into the ear.  Boy, that was a piece of cr*p!  First of all, it's almost impossible to stick it into DS's ear - he turns his head immediately.  Even with DH & I holding him, it's still very difficult to put the probe in his ear long enough to get an accurate reading.

I just ordered another one of the Vicks...

I actually just ordered the Exergen Temporal thermometer from Amazon....it got pretty good reviews, so we're gonna give it a shot.

I use the ear kind. It's fast and only has to be in his ear for a few seconds to get a accurate reading. DS puts up kinda a little fight at first, but once it's in his ear he thinks it's cool and lets us do it. DH and I take our temp first to show DS what it's doing and normally he's pretty good!

I have the Exergen as well it's accurate for me, and it's a good thermometer for rest family (not just DS). They also have a $10 mail in rebate on their website that's good through the end of the year.

I use an ear one. You have to get it at the right angel. I take it oncei n each ear and use the higher number. She thinks it's cool.
