Crib Mattress question

From what I've seen, standard crib mattresses vary in size by about an inch in length and width.  I also know that you shouldn't be able to fit more than 2 fingers in between the mattress and the crib.  So my question is, do all standard size mattresses fit in cribs that are designed for standard size mattresses, or is there the possibility that the mattress isn't going to fit acceptably even though its a standard size mattress? TIA

Re: Crib Mattress question

  • My crib came with a tag that said minimum mattress size is ## x ## for safety.  I had to choose between 2 of the mattresses that were large enough, the others were a 1/2 inch small one way or another.

  • When I bought my mattress and crib I didn't pay attention to sizes and had no problem with the mattress fitting the crib. But the crib came with instructions that have the exact dimensions of the mattress that would fit it best.
  • Sweet, thanks ladies!  I'm off to have DH dig the instructions out of the crib box.
