A few questions about egg retrieval

Hi ladies, My ER is on Friday. I will do a half dose HCG this evening. I have some questions. 1. My trigger time should be 8:30 PM. How long is the grace period? A YouTube video said 15 mins. Is this correct? 2. Am I free of shot tomorrow? 3. Any particular kind of dress would make me feel comfortable after ER? Many thanks!

Re: A few questions about egg retrieval

  • 1.  I have always did my trigger at the exact time they said.  For IVF#1 it was 1:30am and I had DH injecting the meds at exactly 1:30am.

    2.  I am triggering tonight too and I have no injections tomorrow.

    3.  My clinic suggests wearing something comfortable.  I wore yoga pants last time and plan on wearing them again this time.

  • My RE told me to take the HCG exactly at the time I was supposed to - I wasn't given a grace period.  I prepped everything a few minutes before trigger time, and was ready to inject right on schedule.  Once you do your trigger shot, you no longer do any of your stim injections.  You'd have to ask your RE whether you need to continue any other meds you've been taking (like baby aspirin, etc.).  I felt really bloated and uncomfortable after ER, so definitely wear something loose (no jeans) - a cotton sundress would work.  Or a long jersey cotton skirt with a t-shirt and fleece if it's cooler outside.  If it has a waistband, I'd make sure it's elastic for comfort.

    Good luck!

  • 1. My nurse said to take it at exactly the time I was instructed, and that's what I did.  I think on ER day there's about 90 mins or so of cushion time in case they're running behind, as they were for me - my ER was about 50 mins late, but it was OK, I asked :-)  They'll ask you what time you took your shot when you go in on ER day, so just take it when they told you to take it because that's how they schedule the ERs everyday.
    2. You should really ask your RE/nurse if you have to do any injections tomorrow.  I had to do HCG and Lupron for my trigger at 11:40pm Wed night, and then I had another Lupron shot that I had to do 12 hours later at 11:40am for my Fri 11:40am ER.  It all depends on your individual protocol so absolutely check with your office if you're not sure about this.
    3. I just wore yoga pants, cotton tank and chunky sweater.

  • 1. Personally, I'd take it at exactly 8:30. I've taken mine literally within 1 minute of the scheduled time. I'm sure it doesn't have to be that precise, but I'm anal. 2. I was always free of shots after the trigger. 3. I wear yoga type pants with a tshirt. I always wear my slip on shoes, too

  • I wore clothes that were easy to put back on after being doped up. :) yoga pants and t shirt
    Trying to Conceive Ticker
  • 1. Take it exactly when they tell you

    2. You should be shot free more than likely tomorrow... enjoy it :)

    3. I wore a maxi dress and cardigan, it was comfortable!

  • Definitely take the shot at the exact time they instruct you to. There should be no shots the next day. I wore yoga pants to be sure I was comfortable. I also knew I'd crawl right into bed when I got home and yoga pants meant I wouldn't have to get changed.

  • I agree. Take it exactly when your scheduled to take it.

I always wear a maxi dress. It's easy to put over my head. It's comfortable with no waist band.

    Best wishes to you.
  • Again, have to agree with all the other folks. Definitely take teh HCG at the time they tell you.  It just all comes down to the fact that they need to make sure they time the retrieval correctly to get the best results.

You should be shot free on retrieval day, however your RE should be telling you exactly what the protocol isso you know how to prepare and what to do.

I wore yoga pants, t-shirt and zip up sweatshirt. You'll want to be as comfy as possible. When the procdure is over and you need to get dressed again you'll probably be alittle groggy and a little crampy so think about what would be the easiest outfit to put back on comfortably also.

Best wishes for a great retrieval!!!

  • Good luck! I agree with all these ladies. Do it at the exact time and definitely wear something comfy! I invested in some cute yoga pants and tshirts from target specifically for this. Might as well look cute going through it haha! I'd check with your nurse as far as your protocol and if you have to have any other shots.
2013- 2 IVF cycles with PGD to prevent genetic disorder from being passed on. Both BFFN :(
