Having second thoughts...WWYD?

Hey Ladies,

Monday is my WTF and Wednesday I am having a hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy. We are very fortunate to have 2 frozen embryos from this cycle, However, we aren't sure we want to go forward with the FET in December, as tentatively planned.

The success rate at my clinic for a FET is half of that of a fresh cycle. Our 2 were frozen on day 6, which concerns me. We have little faith in it working.

We have decided to do 1 last fresh DE/DS cycle if the FET doesn't work. I am beginning to think we should do it now.

The thought of going through a FET and it not working and having to organize a fresh cycle after is weighing heavily on us. Realistically, the fresh cycle would probably not take place until spring. I don't think we can wait much longer.

It has literally been 5 years of TTC, 4 of which have been multiple failed IVF cycles. The thought of having to wait 6+ months to have a good chance of this working is almost unbearable. If we were to move forward now, my testing would be upto date (which includes biannual mammograms/MRIs) and I'm hopeful we would be able to do another cycle in January/February.

I feel lost and defeated. Anyone else ever consider this or thought about this or have I completely lost my mind?

Thanks in advance,

-K

Re: Having second thoughts...WWYD?

  • This is just my opinion, but the frozen embryos will be there for whenever you decide to use them. If you think you have a better option with fresh, then go that direction.

My opinion is definitely colored by our experience of getting pregnant with every fresh and having one BFN FET and the another FET where both embryos didn't survive the thaw (heart-breaking in a whole new way).

We are facing something similar with our GC. We have two embryos left from our last IVF.

  • First off ((HUGS)).

Now. If you already have in the financial ability to go ahead with the fresh cycle, and are willing to try that first, then I would go for it. We are kinda in your same boat, we only have 2 frozen embryos and at first we were going to wait until next year and take a break. BUT. I am emotionally done with this roller coaster and are transferring them on Friday.  So I say go with your gut and hey! Another fresh cycle could end up with more frozen down the road and in the end financially FET are easier to handle then a fresh cycle.

Good luck with whatever you decide, it so hard to make these choices so don't be to hard on yourself.

    April 2013 DE IVF= BFN

September 2013 DE IVF (Fingers Crossed) = BFFFN! again...

October 2013 FET of our last 2 = Beta Hellzz for 6-7 Weeks. M/C

  • I agree with the others, if you have the resources go ahead and do the fresh cycle.  I never had anything to freeze so I'm not entirely familiar with needing to decide on fresh vs frozen but if you are already nervous about those you have frozen, take the chance of adding to your frozen stock with a fresh cycle.

9/15/14 - Our first son born thanks to donor eggs at RBA after 7 failed own egg IVF cycles.
  • That's a hard decision but weighing your options here... If you were going to do a fresh anyways I would do it first and hope to get more frozens to add to the the other two and then you will be smooth sailing with the FET later on with what ever you have left. And like you said you are up to date on all your testing so that will save you time and money right there! I say go for the fresh now and do the FET if needed later! Good luck!

  • I knew you would all understand.

Still struggling with this, but I think we are leaning towards starting a fresh cycle.
