Amnio before delivery?

Hello!  So with my first pregnancy I delivered at 38W 6 D due to being type 1 diabetic and concern about the size of my DS.  Since it was one day before 39 weeks they made me get an amnio to check lung development.  So today I was at my OB and asked if 37 or 38 weeks was acceptable for this pregnancy since it was multiples and its going to be a repeat c-section.  He didnt seem bothered by that at all but he did say we will still need an amnio if it's before 39 weeks, which I am assuming means 2 needles - one for each baby.  Doesnt this seem extreme??  I am hoping I just end up going on my own but I wanted to see if this is common practice?

That does seem extreme to me. I had anamnio with my twin pregnancy early on (around 18 weeks) to check for genetic issues due to my age (39). There were 2 separate needles since my twins were in 2 separate sacks. I haven't heard of doing an amnio to check for lung development after 37 weeks. I was originally scheduled for a RCS at 37 weeks (ended up going into labor on my own a few days earlier) and an amnio was never discussed.

I had an amnio lat time w baby #6. It was awful lol so painful and most people say it's not. I was 36w to check lungs. They said they don't do it after 37-38 wks. So 39 is extreme to me.

I had IDs, so they were going to do an amnio to deliver me before 37 weeks. they came early so no amnio. i'd think you'd only do an amnio before 38 weeks if you are having frats. do you yave an mfm? They can tell your ob the correct info.
